scoring 23 points against perennial NCAA contender letran thus showed JF is not just hype. he can play, what's missing in his arsenal is the refinement of his game as well his physique that needs more bulk. i hope PCCL will somehow become the mother of all college tournaments where 1 true national champion will emerge.

The Knights play the San Sebastian College-Cavite Bay Cats in the national finals.

is UM good enough to beat USC?
i think it will be FEU vs DLSU (but i prefer DLSU vs Ateneo then it is another DLSU Ateneo match )
while if USC can beat UM then this one will be USC vs JRU
or its the other way around.
if FEU vs DLSU match will push through then it is an early match for 2 powerhouse team. and I think FEU will defeat the green archers this time.#parasabayan

Letran, USJ-R reach Sweet 16 Round
by Ronnie Roa
It was a crowded Ormoc City superdome on the final day of the PCC Zone 3 elimination round. It started with an exhibition game between the ACLC Titans and the BIT-CT Cruisers were the Cruisers won, 99-97.
The battle for 3rd featured the West Negros University Mustangs against the University of Cebu Webmasters.
The Mustangs immediately took the driver seat in the 1st half, 39-31. The Webmasters then took the lead with a 3:04 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter, 50-51. The Mustangs managed to keep the game close but lost their composure in the end game.
The Mustangs were led by Jeff Jacinto 14 points and 4 Rebounds followed by Virgelio Dapar with 10 Points and Briton Javelona with 10 points and 3 Steals to his credit.
The Webmasters had a double – double contribution from none other than Junemar Fajardo with 29 Points, 22 Rebs, and 5 Blocked Shots followed by Janssen Abella with 22 Points and Kelvin Juliani with 12 Points.
In the main event of the evening, the Letran Knights experienced an unfamiliar situation in the tournament - they were behind the USJ-R Jaguars since the start - until the 3rd quarter, 58-63.
In the 4th Quarter, the Knights tied the game at 82-all with 12.4 seconds left in regulation. Letran’s Regin Ranises committed an unnecessary foul on the Jaguars’ Mannie Gabas but failed to convert on both free throw attempts. With 9 seconds left, Letran’s RJ Jazul was the likely hero as he converted on a jumper with no time to spare. The final score, 84-82 in favor of Letran.
RJ Jazul had 14 points to lead the Knights with Dino Daa and Jam Cortes contributing 11 points each. Ranulfo Malinao led the Jaguars with 22 points followed by Luther Justiniani with 20 points and 7 rebounds and Mannie Gabas with 17 points and 6 rebounds.
The Letran Knights and the USJ-R Jaguars will advance to the sweet 16 round. Letran will face San Sebastian College - Recoletos Cavite while the USJ-R Jaguars will face current NCAA Champion – the San Beda Red Lions.

Alas wants to face the Red Lions in the Sweet 16 round
by Ronnie Roa
In a press conference held before the final day (November 12, 2008) of the Zone 3 tournament, Letran Knights Coach Louie Alas of Letran Knights said that he wanted to face San Beda in the sweet 16 round, that’s if they win against the USJ-R Jaguars in the finals.
Coach Joe Lipa advised the local officials to improve on their sports program if they want to keep their local talents from being recruited by Manila based institutions. Coach Lipa also said that he has some suggestions on how Collegiate Leagues outside the Metro can have their own recruitment program despite their limited resources.
November 10 highlights
AMA-CLC Titans (60) vs. (101) UC Webmasters (101)
Jerry Holoyohoy led the Titans with 13 points and 7 rebounds followed by Jay-Ar Moldez also with 13 points and Jason Elejorde with 10 points. The Webmasters were led by Arvin Kim Gomez with 20 points followed by Kevin Quilantang 13 points and 7 Rebounds, Lawrence Agas with 13 points and Jansen Abella with 11 points.
West Negros College Mustangs (90) vs BIT-CT Cruisers (62)
The Cruisers displayed their open court savvy and took the lead by the end of the 1st quarter, 22-19. In the 2nd quarter, the Mustangs managed to tie the game at 25-all then took the lead by halftime, 40-44. The Mustangs then closed the 3rd quarter with a 51-60 lead. West Negros pulled away with a 28-point lead to close the game for good.
In the 4th quarter Mustangs had a 13-0 run that caused Cruisers left behind by 28 (62-90) in the final buzzer. Jeff Jacinto had 22 points and 5steals for the Mustangs, while Winrich Posoc and Rashmor Catalino had 14 points. and 13 points. Respectively for West Negros. Ferdinand Lusdoc led the Cruisers with 20pts, 11rebounds, and 5 blocked shots followed by Orly Bewang with 13 points.
USJ-R Jaguars (99) vs BIT-CT Cruisers (74)
The Jaguars, after closing the 1st quarter with a 5-point margin, 23-18, the 2008 CESAFI finalist raced to an 11-point lead to end the 1st half, 49- 38. The Jaguars were still in control in the 3rd quarter, 70-51 even if the Cruisers managed to trim the lead down to just 6-points but BIT could do nothing to solve the rebounding prowess of the Jaguars. Luther Justiniani led thJaguars with 17points and 5 Steals followed by Randy Pogoy with 15 points then Jemar De la Peña with 12 points. The Cruisers were led by Ferdinand Lusdoc with 39 points and 12 Rebounds, followed by Orly Biwang with 13 points and Mark Lumasag 11points.
Colegio San Juan de Letran (86) vs. University of Cebu Webmasters (74)
After 5 deadlocks in the 1st quarter, Letran took the lead, 15-17, after 10 minutes of action. Surprisingly, the Webmasters took the lead, 21-17 early in the 2nd quarter but the Knights recovered to close the 1st half, 32-38. The Knights capitalized on the absence of Junmar Fajardo on the bench with his 4th personal foul to maintain their 12-point lead to seal the win. Dino Daa led the Knights with 27 points followed by RJ Jazul with 21 Points. Junmar Fajardo led the way for the Webmasters with 24 points, 12 Rebounds, and 9 Blocked Shots. Jansen Abella and Robinson Mohammad 15 points and 10 points respectively for USJ-R.
November 11, 2008 Highlights
CSJL Knights (70) vs. West Negros College Mustangs (58)
In the 1st quarter, the Mustangs caught the Knights flat footed, 8-5. But after 12-all deadlock, Letran took the driver seat after 10 minutes of play, 17-14. The 1st half ended with the Knights in control, 34-19. In the 3rd quarter, the Knights took a commanding 17-point lead, 57-40 and was never threatened until the final buzzer. Dino Daa led Letran with 13 Points and 5 Rebounds followed by Kojack Melegrito with 13 Points and RJ Jazul with 11 points.
USJ-R Jaguars (95) vs. UC Webmasters (87)
It was a very physical game. UC slotman Junmar Fajardo was a presence in the paint. In the 3rd quarter, the Webmasters were scoreless for more than 3 minutes until UC tied the game at 66-all in the final seconds. With Junmar Fajardo in foul trouble, the Jaguars took advantage and pull off an 8-point win over the Webmasters. Luther Justiniani had 25 points for the Jaguars followed by Ranulfo Malinao with 19 points and Jabe Delfino had 17 points. Janssen Abella led the Webmasters with 20 points. Junmar Fajardo and Krist Pao had 16 and 14 points respectively for UC.

FEU Tamaraws, USC open PCCL bids
By Lynde Salgados
MANILA's Far Eastern University and Cebu's University of San Carlos are favored to hurdle their opening game assignments in the Philippine Collegiate Champions League which fires off here Friday at the Xavier University gym.
The FEU Tamaraws battle Ateneo de Zamboanga while the USC-Cebu takes on homegrown pride Capitol University in a double-header which starts shortly after the 5 p.m. ceremonial tip-off to be attended by Misamis Oriental Governor Oscar S. Moreno, Cagayan de Oro 2nd district Congressman Rufus Rodriguez and former mayor Rey Baula of Sumilao, Bukidnon.
Erstwhile Cagayan de Oro College standout JR Cawaling, who already made an impact in the UAAP Games, gets the chance to play before hometown fans as he spearheads the FEU's quest for the regional final slot slot in the PCCL's Zone 4 qualifier.
"It's exciting to watch him play here again. We're proud to have local talents like him excel in the UAAP," said Gerardo "Boboy" Sabal, athletics director of Xavier University, referring to the versatile Cawaling who has physical semblance with Air 21's ace forward Arwin Santos.
On Saturday (Nov. 15), Cawaling and the fancied Tamaraws will face the challenge of host Xavier University Senior Crusaders top-billed by the likes of GB Tagarda, Bee Datinguinoo, JP Erram, Julian Bagares and Paul Siarot. It will be followed by an equally interesting match between the USC and Davao's University of Mindanao.
"Of course, I'll be rooting for my former team in college. With the FEU going here to play is like a trip down memory lane," mused Anton Pabillore, who used to play back-up guard of Johnny Abarrientos with the FEU Tamaraws.
Sanctioned by the BAP-Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, the PCCL aims to discover basketball talents left untapped in the corner due to lack of opportunity and exposure.
Former PBA chairman and Pilipinas Shell Executive Ray Gamboa heads the list of organizers with former National Coach Joe Lipa as the tournament director.
Each team gets to qualify in the PCCL through the local qualifiers such as the UAAP, NCAA, Cesafi, Cosaa and the like.
Winners of the local qualifiers play in the Regional Finals and the Regional winners advance to the Zonal Finals.
The top 2 teams in the 4 Zonal Championships will then join the 8 seeded teams to compose the "Sweet 16".
Zamboanga Champions Ateneo de Zamboanga University, Davao Champions University of Mindanao, UAAP 3rd placer FEU, CESAFI (Cebu) 3rd placer University of San Carlos, COSAA champion Xavier University and Wild Card entry Capitol University will be slugging it out for the Zone 4 Championships.LABAN KUNG LABAN! FEU will win this zone... for sure
Im not impressed with USC they win against CU but with no big lead... theyre small... Emel Rowe didnt know how to penetrate and committed lots of turnovers...
UM will play tomorrow and base on their line up i think some of them are overage... they are also a big team
XU is a new and good team they even reach quarterfinals in Unity games in dumaguete but fail short against West Negros...
will play well tomorrow against FEU and FEU will win that game... hehehe
they have a better chance to clinch sweet 16 if USC and UM will not play well
ADZU will be the bottom team on this zone...

The Cruisers were led by Ferdinand Lusdoc with 39 points and 12 Rebounds, followed by Orly Biwang with 13 points and Mark Lumasag 11points."There are only three kinds of mathematicians: those who can count, and those who can not."
