  • Super 8: Macau Basketball Invitational

    Date: September 20-24 2017
    Venue: Studio City Stadium
    Site and Ticket: http://www.studiocity-macau.com/en/p...17-Asia-League

Formerly. the Asia League but FIBA was quick to threaten the organizers with a lawsuit in using the name "Asia League", so the budding club tournament was quick to rebrand into the Super 8 Invitationals.

    Shenzhen Leopards
    Zhejiang Guangsha Lions
    Chiba Jets
    Ryukyu Golden Kings
    Fubon Braves
    Seoul Samsung Thunders
    Goyang Orions
    Pauian Pure Youth

If you look at their social media accounts, they are heavily advertising the participation of Gilas Pilipinas, but one would look at the date and it's a month remove from the ongoing FIBA Asia Cup where the Philippine NT has already broken camp by then in order to rest or prepare for the new PBA season. Organizers are even bold enough to advertise poster boy Terrence Romeo in the site.

Most of the East Asian clubs here are preparing for their respective campaigns for the the new season of the CBA, SBL, B-League and KBL.

Chiba Jets roster for the Super 8 Invitationals:

    Tomokazu Abe
    Yuki Togashi
    Michael Parker
    Aki Chambers
    Fumio Nishimura
    Gavin Edwards
    Fumio Nishimura
    Gaku Arao
    Kosuke Ishii
    Shuta Hara
    Tony Gaffney
    Ryumo Ono
    Shunsuke Ito

Chiba this season is going uptempo as their "centers" Gaffney, Edwards and Parker are all natural PF. Only Shunsuke Ito, who is old is the pure center.

Also, Super 8 media said that FIBA now recognizes them... whatever that means.

What do you think of the Taiwan teams, Fubon Braves and Pauian Archiland? Can they show some good basketball? I don't have any idea in their league.
Pauian will not field Quincy Davis, who is out due to injury. They are flying in Emmanuelle Jones and Edvinas Seskus, the Lithuanian standout from the selection that played in the Jones Cup. Pauian fron-court has depth if we factor in Wu Tai-Hao and Wu Hong-Hsing. That and their stable of veteran guards will be dependable.

Fubon, Joe Lin is expected but we'd want him to better facilitate more instead of forcing the tempo to go one on one. Jet Chang could suit up but in limited minutes. There's Tsai Wen-Tseng, Chen Hsiao-Jung and TJ Burke to expect contribution. Their import is Garrett Siler, former Pauian center.

Aki Chambers has attained his Japanese citizenship and is now considered a local player. Michael Parker is a naturalized Japanese and is now considered a local. See Aisin's JR Sakuragi.

Edwards and Gaffney are import players.

Gotta love the addition of Ira Brown to Ryukyu. When in doubt, defer to Ira Brown.

Momentum now favors Ryukyu as now they lead 42-31 versus Goyang. Goyang's offense started to go out of sync when they were going first post option on Macklin. Hilton Armstrong now in for Ryukyu.

Ryukyu Golden Kings 84 - 83 Goyang Orions in OT. Announcers making it look like the game is crowded when the first row is pretty much empty.

Day 2 was lackluster. Most of the games were treated like a mild scrimmage. Highlight of the day was Korea's soon to be naturalized player against Ioannis Bourousis.
