    Default 2017 U23 Women's Four Nations Tournament

Inaugural U23 Four Nations Tournament will be played Aug 12-15 in Tokyo (JPN).

USA Basketball announced today the coaching staff that will lead a college national team against Australia, Canada and Japan at the tournament.

It's rather surprising, since such squad would match a WUG team USA Basketball could have sent this year (University of Maryland will instead represent USA at 2017 Taipei Universiade).

As many as 40 college players have been announced by USA Basketball to attend the U23 NT training camp from July 31-Aug 4.

All top NCAA players are in the list, many of them with previous international experience at cadet/junior and WUG level. Only major names missing are Notre Dame Brianna Turner (injured) and FSU Shakayla Thomas (2015 U19 WC team, was kicked out before the end of the tournament).

It's also confirmed that Canada will participate with a Developement team (to be named) that will later compete at the Taipei WUG.

The UConn players won't be eligible for selection since they will be touring Italy at the same time:

The UConn contingent will not be eligible for selection to the team though as the Huskies are booked for a foreign tour of Italy from Aug. 12-23. However, all four are excited to participate in the training camp regardless of that fact.

So the final roster is nearly losing half of its potential. The four Huskies would have been team's sure locks, imo.
