    • The game against #1 netherlands was winnable. Our team will go stronger. Amsali is too quiet.

      • The guards have to recognize that the game is much easier when they use Edu in the play. He can flat out play but is deferring to the guards.

Agreed. A couple more pick n' rolls, screens, cutting and touches in the post for AJ would help a lot. Heavy iso-ball gets you gassed.

We did give #1 Netherlands a battle. We have a strong team.

          • This is likely premature but... who would you replace Amsali with?

He's mobile enough and strong enough for a Pinoy big but it seems there isn't one standout thing about him.

                  • I am sold on this Liano kid's potential. At such a young age, he's got the essentials of a prototype international guard: ballhandling skills, outside shooting, athleticism and looks like he also has the strength and the build to boot. All the other facet of his game could be improved with proper mentoring. NT material, if you'd ask me.

the team looked lackluster against netherland. probably got tired against israel. schedule too close.

the team needs to get a lot of easy points from edu. He IS a dominant big forward, who happens to be taller too than the competition, and picks near the basket kill the other team. No need for bakaw ball. Amsali is not for 3x3. Why do they keep repeating mistakes in the sbp?

The next rp pool games are against much weaker teams. They should use these games to allow edu to dominate the other forwards (no real centers in 3x3), as well as drive-and-kick plays as jgdl and serrano can shoot well from the outside.

                          • Interesting to note that the dutch team wins because of their defense. It seems they were able to scout Gomez and Serrano well.

                              • The attraction with Amsali I guess is that he is a big kid by Pinoy standards, 6-4/5, that has good handles. We dont really have those in abundance. But the problem with Amsali is he is a bad rebounder and rim protector for his height. He doesnt have an explosive first step and worst is he still doesnt have an outside shot.

He is ok if he is taller or as tall than his guard. He can bully his way to the basket. But at this level his guard is taller and more mobile than him.

I dont think we have somebody as big as Amsali with the same handles. Unfortunately Amsali has still not developed the other parts of his game. IMO he should lose some weight, improve his outside shooting and be a full time SF and stop being a weak PF.
