Jonas Mariano is the son of Jimmy Mariano. He played for La Salle and then with Ginebra/Gordon's Gin boars briefly.

THIS IS one of the best players that may be classified under the thread topic.

Jonas Mariano was one of the best shooting guards during his college days. Sadly, he broke his shin bone just as he was to begin his professional career via Ginebra.

He slowly tried to battle his way back from injury, at one point going back to the PBL with Red Bull, the same team coached by his dad.

Then a detour to show business came. It was actually a return since the young Mariano was already doing bit roles in the movies when he was in grade school at La Salle-Greenhills. He stopped to focus full-time on his studies and basketball early in high school.

He finally cracked the pro ranks when he signed with the MBA's Surigao Warriors in 2000. Still, he was hounded by his old injuries and he was having a hard time maintaining his ideal playing weight.

Most of this guys made it to the PBA, but were unlucky. Some didn't shine and some were not given contracts. Unlucky indeed.

                              • Jason Webb (Terrific career at DLSU, might have retired too soon)
Ronald Magtulis (FEU's main man, just disappeared in the PBA)
Boybits Victoria (Good enough to start any PBA team but chose to ride the SMB bench)
Stevenson Solomon (In the PABL, he and his team already has a cult following, damn that eye injury, he could have been the next Nelson Asaytono)
