That Baba guy is a for sure an interesting player, 21 years old, looks quite athletic with good body control, but I need to see him play against taller competition since he likes to attack the basket so much.

height difference is a big factor, but height isn't everything

      Hu Long-mao 196cm

So of course they are worse, they are each 6cm shorter! But 203cm Quincy Davis and 205cm Wu Tai-hao are the only players over 2m on this team, and they are both old. The coach picked one "tall" "youngster", 200cm Lin Chih-wei, and as I mentioned in another thread, he sucks and plays like a girl. So even in a blowout like this Quincy Davis plays 31 minutes, more than anybody else in this game, and he probably would have played 39 minutes if he didn't foul out.
Yes the height difference could be a factor, but it should not be an excuse for these young Taiwanese bigs to play way below than the level of their predecessors. I don't know if you're familiar with the Philippine team players, but take for instance the case of Japeth Aguilar & Ranidel Deocampo who plays the same position at power forward. Aguilar is at least 3 inches taller than Deocampo, but the consensus is, Deocampo is the more valuable player for the national team in the last 4 years or so.

Of course one should expect that Japan is the more disciplined team becoz Japan is the more cohesive team with more experienced players. Korea has a lot of new & young players who probably are first timers in international basketball. Korea isn't the same team without veteran point guards Yang Dong Geun & Kim Tae Sool, and swingman Cho Sung Min.

Its the opposite, the young guys of korea gives them discipline thats why some nt gretas in korea started at 19 20.. because they are disciplined, as they go pro they become richer and the only motivation they have to play in nt is to get asian games gold so that no. 1 they become exempted in military service and second to have pension when they retire..

From the Japan-Korea game it appears they also don't have much of a post presence either (Yes, I saw Takeuchi twins and Lee Jong-hyun). Out of the 4 teams I believe Japan is the most "complete" (CKR13 can correct me), and personally I don't find them impressive. It will be interesting to see how this tournament ends.
I think so too that Japan is the closest to a "Team A" in this EABA edition with Chinese Taipei also sending their "Team A". In the JPN-KOR game, Takeuchi twins were often moving far away to the basket to set a screen and made most of their points from either jumpshot or a basket cleanup. For Lee Jong-Hyun to get several post up chances, it were on several broken plays. If it were not for Ira Brown, Korea would win easily.

The serious part for Japan is that outside Takeuchis + Ota, they have no local bigman that can bring in the same quality and production. Taiga Watanabe at 207cm turned out to be a bust. I get that Yuta Watanabe, Rui Hachimura and Avi Schafer are next but they still have commitments in the US.

Japan's Takeuchi + Ota combination has been set since 2011 and it is expected that the three must still play in 2020.

Korea barely survives China. Hu Jinqiu, Sun Ming-Hui and Zhao Yanhao performed admirably down the stretch. Props also to Korea for making those threes in OT

Taiwan's unconventional lineup of Chou Yi-Hsiang at PG while Quincy Davis is flanked by shooters Kevin Hu, Chou Po-Chen and Tsai Wen-Tseng ultimately allows Davis the inside space to just bully his way inside. Japan sticking to man to man as Davis rampages inside.

Yeah, he definitely can create shots, but can he pass? Is he willing to pass?

He definitely fits the mould better of a modern scoring PG

Korea is a big man short with 200cm Song Kyochang ruled out of the EABA finals with a hamstring injury sustained in practice. That leaves 206cm Lee Jong-Hyun, 200cm Park In-Tae and possibly 198cm Jeong Hyo-Geun being able bodies to try and stop Quincy Davis. Kang Sangjae at 198cm is soft.

This is great for Taiwan, even if some other teams didn't send their A teams. They needed the boost after some poor recent showings and to have some of the young guys gel into a part of the team.

Jones cup should be a good one this year!
