    Japan's U16 currently has 15 members:

    Riku Sasayama
    Takuto Nakamura
    Rin Yamazaki
    Yuki Satoshi
    Hikaru Iwasaki
    Koyo Nishida
    Kaiga Matsuo
    Seisin Yokochi
    Yu Kibayashi
    Chikara Tanaka
    Shugo Toyama
    Yusuke Matsuyama

Seishin Yokochi and Chikara Tanaka are heavily advertised as great two-way players. I think Torsten Loibl will bring both Kazuki Kagiya and Yu Kabayashi into the 12 man squad as this team needs ceiling badly. Both are Kagiya and Kabayashi are just 192cm. Yusuke Matsuyama at 194cm is the tallest and Rin Yamazaki at 191cm (plays SF - PF) could take his place.

Most of Korea's players in the U16 pool were part of the 2017 NIKE Asia-Pacific Camp:

        Jung Hee-Hyun 201cm C
        Cha Min-Seok 196cm F
        Kim Do-Eun 183cm G
        Kim Hyung-Jun 191cm F
        Kim Jae-Won 183cm G
        Lee Doo-Won 200cm C
        Lee Hyun-Jung 198cm F
        Park Min-Chae 188cm G
        Seo Moon-Chae 180cm G
        Yeo Jun-Seok 200cm C

Most promising is Yeo Jun-Seok 200cm C / PF that can bring up the ball like a forward and has the ball-handling of a guard. Needs to improve his shooting from the off-hand around the basket.

Australia will have a nice squad. Lots of really good guards available, some good forwards and a couple of good bigs and a new head coach.
Point guard Tamuri Wigness(if chosen) will be one to watch.

At last we now have a new venue and schedule. Its Nanjing, China. Feb 12 - 20, 2018. My concern now is the eligibility of players. What if a player is more than 16 yo come february, 2018, will he still be allowed to compete considering that he could be under 16 if the original schedule of Oct, 2017 was followed?

Currently in the Prague, Czech Republic for training and scrimmaging with youth teams. Average height is around 184cm with the exception of Yuki Kawamura, who is a natural scorer with advanced dribbling. Chikara Tanaka has already trained with the Akatsuki senior team last year and he is still a member of the senior NT pool for this year's FIBA qualifier campaign.

Wow they are bit short but i think they can compensate it with shooting. What do you think are the chances of philippines against this japanese team? The philippine team is expectedly composed of bigmen like sotto (215cm), kirkness (206cm), tamayo (200 cm), chiu (200cm), cortez (196cm), and lazaro (196cm).

I think the one that will dictate the tempo of the game will win this. It will take a very bad shooting night and a very fatigued Philippine youth to lose to Japan. The upcoming Philippine U16 is frankly taller than even the past senior NTs in FIBA Asia.

Philippines has the advantage given their height and sheer talent, plus players like Sotto and Tamayo are actually mobile and far from lumbering towers. What will work for Japan is how they will watch the aggressive full-court press and swarming defense that Malaysia employed against Batang Gilas in SEABA U16, but even that is a long shot.

Any word on Taiwan's team? I wonder how they will integrate it with the current HBL season?

Seriously wish Taiwan could get one of these tournaments, it would be packed!!!

I want sotto to be our version of haddadi or even zhou qi(far-fetched idea though) not ha seungjin. He has the passion and willingness to learn. He can ve slouched and lazy at time but he is still good. Tamayo will our own version of joji takeuchi of japan and oh sekeun of korea. That kid has the good combination of size, shooting and fundamentals. Yes he is mobile big.

If gilas faces japan, i think gilas should let sotto and tamayo operate inside as they have really clear advantage over shorter japanese side. Both of them should be able to seal their men. This things should be done in early going of the game so that japanese will have a difficulty of establishing themselves.

This is what iran is doing with haddadi in the line up.

No news for me about Taiwan as well. But the good news is that the HBL committee is known historically to change the HBL tournament date in order for Taiwan to send the best group of players. They did that in 2015 for FIBA Asia U16 then in 2016 in FIBA U17 WC. That goes for the men and women's team, so that's somewhat a good news.

Anyone knows the line-up of Batang Gilas? its 5 to 6 weeks to go before the tournament schedule. The team should be finalized within a couple of weeks so they have ample time for practice and gelling. The on-going UAAP juniors tournament should not be a hindrance. BTW, when will the UAAP tournament get finished? Anyone knows?
