A longer coverage of Meralco Manila's home game against JPV Marikina by Red Card TV.

Football patronage in Manila is basically dead, this is true for Manila teams like Meralco Manila, Kaya Makati, etc. That is because people there would prefer to watch an Indoor Game like Basketball, Volleyball, MMA, etc.

Metro Manilans just like to watch their sport in a weatherproof and temperature controlled environment, which is why those other sports tend to be packed and have very good patronage.

However, there is hope, and that is in the provinces. We have seen how the crowd was in Cebu, and the same is true in other provincial teams like the Davao Aguilas or Ceres Negros.

Once JPV Marikina and Stallions Laguna fixes their stadiums, we'll see if they can draw in the Football crowds as well.

The Transfer Window is now open, and first off, Jason de Jong left Ceres Negros FC to transfer to the San Miguel Davao FC: http://fastbreak.com.ph/de-jong-tran...davao-aguilas/

Simone Rota has also left Ceres-Negros FC, but no news where he will end up.

The Younghusbands are rumored to be leaving the Manila Meralco FC for San Miguel Davao FC, but this is unconfirmed yet.

I think San Miguel Davao deserves a much stronger team than what they have now because of their awesome patronage, so let's see if they really do get the team that they want during this Transfer Window.

Players who have left their teams but have not indicated where they are going to next:
        - Nick O'Donnell, former Global Cebu FC, ADMU standout, member of the Youth Azkals
        - Matthew Hartmann, former Global Cebu FC, former Azkal
        - Simone Rota, former Ceres Negros FC, former Azkal

These are quality, name players, and if they do end up with the San Miguel Davao FC, that will make that team really strong. The Younghusbands are also rumored to be on the way to the Tagum team also.

Me possible "Transfer Fee" pa pala. This is one thing I don't like about Football, their trade rules tend to be quite complicated and skewed towards the teams too much.

Struggling Davao Gets Aggressive, Targets Younghusband Siblings via Transfer Window

            By: Cedelf P. Tupas - Reporter / @cedelfptINQ
            Philippine Daily Inquirer / 05:04 AM July 21, 2017

Philippines Football League club FC Meralco Manila will be facing stiff competition in its bid to keep stars Phil and James Younghusband in the squad as the mid-year transfer window opened this week.

Two clubs, including newcomer San Miguel Davao Aguilas, have expressed interest in acquiring the Younghusband brothers, whose three-year deal with Meralco ends at the end of August.

“Two clubs are interested, but they are still under contract with Meralco,” said a reliable source. “What’s important to them (Younghusband brothers) is that they can continue playing at a high level.”

The Younghusband brothers have been with the Sparks since 2011, winning two trophies, including the UFL Cup in 2014.

A source within Meralco said the club is ready to offer Phil and James a one-year deal.

Not much news about our National Team these days, the action right now is focused on local and international Club competitions.

Even the San Miguel Davao FC gets a lot of fan attention in Bacolod. They just lost 2-0 in Panaad and as we can see, Matthew Hartmann already was with the team there.

And the biggest news in Philippine Football today, the Younghusband brothers are confirmed to be set to transfer to the Davao Aguilas FC.

I think both deserve each other, Davao deserves a strong team because of the solid fan support it is getting, and the Younghusbands deserve more people behind them than just the mostly empty stands in Manila.

Davao Signing Spree Continues with Acquisition of Phil and James Younghusband from Meralco

From: Christian Jacinto July 29, 2017, 02:00 pm

IN what is easily the biggest move in the transfer window of the Philippines Football League, the Younghusband brothers Phil and James are set to move to the Davao Aguilas, effective next matchday.

The acquisition of the national team mainstays culminated the signing spree of the club from the south, which has been aggressive in signing players ever since the transfer window opened nearly two weeks ago.

Before securing the services of the Younghusbands, the San Miguel-backed franchise had signed former national team mainstays Jason de Jong, Simone Rota and Matt Hartmann.

"Their leadership, work ethic, and professionalism never failed to inspire their teammates," says FC Meralco Manila Vice Chairman Randy Roxas.

                          Thoughts on Global vs. Ilocos

                          Fair Play by Mike Limpag
                          Sunday, August 6, 2017

KICKOFF. A 4 p.m. kick-off isn't good for the crowd. It's hot, and there were fewer people in the stands. The Ceres and Stallion games had 5,000, while the one against Davao had 4,500. Against Ilocos, only 2,600 showed up--though it did get pretty loud at times. The opening of the Cesafi--which had the college crowd captured--may have also been a factor.

As one coach suggested, if it's a Saturday, make it a 7 p.m. kick-off so those who go off work at 5 can watch, if it's Sunday, make it an earlier kick off, so those who have classes or work the next
                          day can go home early.

I thought the match was going to be aired live on PTV, which necessitated the 4 p.m. slot but it was only on livestream, so local factors--ie fans--should have been considered. The PFL and the clubs are trying to build a local following.

FAN INTERACTION. Just like in the previous home games, the crowd didn't leave after the final whistle but waited for some interaction with the players. Some of the Global FC players were a bit slow to catch on and captain Misgah Bahadoran, who was receiving treatment in the sidelines, had to get up and prod his teammates to go near the crowd. Just like in previous games, too, there was limited player interaction due to security concerns.

Nimrod Quinones, the CFA head for security matters, is a no nonsense guy when it comes to these matters, but I hope that in the next home game, player interaction will be part of the program, perhaps after the match.

The game against Kaya is expected to have a full house as it would coincide with the opening of the Aboitiz Cup and the age group players will be there, and all these players--and some of their moms perhaps--want a chance to meet the Global players.

THE CEBUANOS HAVE ADOPTED GLOBAL AS THEIR OWN. Before the league started, there was always that concern of how a community with a rich football history accept a "transplanted" home team, but such worries have been answered in the last two games against Davao and Ilocos. Now, the fans readily jeer or boo anyone whom they think is playing dirty or trying to get one over the ref.

The San Miguel Davao FC shows their list of sponsors in their Facebook Cover Photo. Impressive, but then again Davao is the hometown and base of operations of the sitting President, so no wonder ...

Shocking win by FC Meralco Manila since they played an Away game, and without the Younghusbands anymore.

In fairness, Ceres Negros FC did play a very tough game against Singapore's Home United FC just recently, so they probably were still reeling from the highs and lows of that game.
