sometimes you just need to believe.. when China is inferior in Asia and Philippines is arguably the best what do you think whats on their mind? someday they will finally defeat Philippines with their height and shooting, and be dominant in Asia. And see what happened, they produced a world class caliber center in the form of Yao Ming and even now theyre still competitive in world seen. I know you want us to be realistic on the reality we have but you also cant see the opportunity we can achieved.Last edited by RONNEL; 03-20-2017, 11:57 PM.If force, speed, acceleration, gravity, distance and time can compute then why we used chances when it comes to dice. PROBABILITY is just an excuse for a complex computation.

China will always have NBA prospects as they produce good centers and NBA tends to source for foreign big men, guard spots are usually reserved for their own local talent so is unlikely to see Castro or Romeo in the NBA.

We cant even exceed china in that true impartial way of looking at things.
If the gilas nt can win several fiba championships in the next ten years, the phillipines is good in basketball. If it cant, it is not that good. Nothing can be simpler or more convincing than that.
When you cant win championships in tournaments called asian championships, you justify being a loser by saying "we went there to learn, gain experience or participate, or be gender sensitive, or achieve world peace, or promote human rights, od be the myth in the mythical five." For those who win gold medals and championship trophies, no explanation is necessary.

and one more thing..
I have so much respect to Gilas.. being national player means giving pride to your country and no one can ever take that away.If force, speed, acceleration, gravity, distance and time can compute then why we used chances when it comes to dice. PROBABILITY is just an excuse for a complex computation.

Let's face it. The entry of Australia and New Zealand will only make things more difficult for all other teams at the Asian level. Not even China would beat a full-force AU squad with Simmons, Thon Maker, and Dellavedova, and the AIS pipeline looks pretty set for the next five years. I'm looking forward to 2024 and onwards, though, as we'll have the personnel to at least match up with their height and skill.Keep running, big boy.

Now i know it's still possible to beat China and New Zealand, but for now, as long as this Philippine basketball system can't produce disciplined coaches and players in the caliber of Ben Simmons, Thon Maker and Patty Mills, let's be happy for second place, realistically speaking =) Peace.

Closest matchup talaga China.. we're slightly ahead skills wise but they're too damn tall. Anyway, i hope coaches in the Phils comes up with a plan that could implement a program like AIS, and have players under this program immune from the bullshit commercialisation of UAAP, NCAA and the obsolete PBA. Why is this feasible for the benefit of the national team? look at Australia, their NBL is sh*T, and they do nothing about it because it's the way it is, but they placed 4th (close to bronze) because they source their talents (ALL LOCALS, take note) outside of their sh*tty league. If you're a good aussie player, you play in the NBA, if you're subpar you play in the sh*tty NBL. Maybe that's what we should do in the Phils too, let the sh*tty guys play in the PBAAko ang may pinakamalakas na confidence!

We are just lucky enough that we have SBP for basketball but how about the other sports and with this current administration too it looks like sport is being snub big time they are too busy with our problems in drugs lols all they have done so far is the incentives to the olympians. They didn't know sports could be the solution to our illegal drugs problem the one that can save the kids on the streets using solvents.
Change the system entirely, not improve the current system we have, that's the key. I've said this in previous posts before, as long as rookies in the PBA are 26-28y/o, and players aged 22-25 are still playing in an overhyped collegiate league driven by egomaniac alumni and commercialised by various media companies, we will never improve. As long as NIKE and adidas Philippines are giving KIDS who hasn't proven anything yet special treatment for the sake of their marketing strategy, we will never improve. As long as we have a parents who accept bribes to send their kid to a specific school, we will never improve. As long as we have a coach who unnecessarily uses his team as protagonists in a dramatised documentary, we will never improve. As long as we can't produce our own bigmen a that meet the height and skill requirement to compete in the highest level of basketball, we will keep on fooling ourselves whenever we hire naturalised centers and claim them as our own. As long as we produce undersized wingmen who are one dimensional (can't drive because too small --- trigger happy), we will keep on running the Dribble Drive motion offense, just without the "DRIVE" because our slashers who are supposed to finish can't even finish and settles for those ill-taken jumpshots, dapat dribble drive atras motion offense tawag eh, okaya iso ROmeo, iso Castro, iso DrayBlatche offense, those sound fitting to the type of basketball we run.

Before Dirk Nowitzki, the thinking was that 7-footers can not be shooters/play in the perimeter. But ever since he showed it can be done, we now have a lot of 7-footers who can play small. It opened the minds of trainers/parents that if they train bigs early, it can be done. Right now in the Philippines, most think that there can be no really tall Pinoy that can play like a guard. This is not true. All it takes is patience and persistence.
