  • Btw, you ask inconvenient questions and pose inconvenient truths to make sure favoritism and double standards wont apply in forming national teams. As in jalalons case, 1) which former or current nba pg like mills he may encounter can he outplay to the benefit of the nt; 2) which of the top apac team's pgs from australia, china, nzealand, south korea or japan can he outplay? 3) if those are too hard, which pgs in san miguel beer, ginebra, or talk and txt can he outplay to help his team win a championship?, 4) if forumers here can criticize the pba multi-mvp fajardo as too slow for fiba world and apac, and noticed how few touches good centers like him get under chots version of the ddo, how did jalalon who has not received recognition or trophies from fiba or the pba become a pg icon or excellent pg?, and 5) the ability of castro in his younger days to outplay other pgs are proven by videos, awards, and more importantly, credible offers fron non-philippine teams to play outside the philippines. So, how can he even be a better choice at pg than thompson and norwood, among others, for nt duties?

So far, the evidence shows he can outplay myanmarese pgs. Is this now enough to get into the pinoy nt?

If we remove all or five guards from the present gilas nt, good replacements can easily be found. If we remove all present or 5 nt bigs, what happens to the nt's competitiveness?

So if you really don't have a good program, and just happened to have 1 NBA player ( baka naturalized player pa) then you're screwed. Which when you think about it is fair. wala na , yung mercernary type . you have to have a good depth which is really an indication of the strenght of your grassroot program. That's why for a strong basketball nation like Australia even if doesn't use it's NBA and European league players for some windows, its confident of qualifying cause it knows it's "minor league players those playing in the NBL can easily win their windows. (so that's a testament of true strength) , aslo note there will no longer be an independent quaifying tournament for the Olympics, as the WC itself will be the Olympic qualifer. which again relieves the major players from having to frequently play an interntioanl season every summer ( which is what is causeing wear and tear)

BTW note 32 teams qualify for the WC, I'm not sure there are even 32 countries that have 1 or more NBA player. so really if a coutry is trully deserving to qualify for the WC it should't even have to rely on its NBA player, their local domestic league should be good enough to supply players to make it into the top 32 countries in the world, if it is not , then that speaks for itself basketball is really not that good in that country
Clearly we have the depth for a B and C team, maybe even a D team, and so does the USA. Players are adequately protected here. The problem remains - how to balance this new format with the interests of the clubs and the leagues.

      • I totally agree with you guys-- Jalalon definitely earned another call up at the pool with his stellar performance on both ends of the court.
Never look too far ahead. You might stumble on a block right in front of you.

        • Thompson had a good game against SMB. He was even efficient at the 3, with 2 makes. Thompson should keep this up and force Chots hand to pick him in the pool. Im sure Thompson wont do a Lassiter. Iba parin ang Pinoy, sa puso man o sa dugo.

In lieu of Aguilar? The SMC umbrella adheres to one player per team policy, excluding cadets. This is why Maliksi came in as a replacement (for Lee) rather than simply an addition to the pool. Iirc, we haven't submitted yet our 24 man pool when the news of Lee injury, and eventually Maliksi taking his place, came out. Staff could have simply talked one of the cadets out if SMC was willing to lend both Lee and Maliksi.

If we are going to make two teams maybe SMC might be amenable to lending two players if they are not taken at the same time. We really need a big defensive PG. If the PBA will not provide SBP might get outside. Hello Kiefer, Parks.

              • hope sbp and pba can make a compromise for sea games so that paras, parks and ravena can join the sea games team.

I think Parks will take Jalalon's spot and Jalalon will play in SEA GAMES instead.Parks is the answer to the big PG and he's also another SG that they can rely on.

Never say never, but at present, that will be a mistake.

Parks has yet to address his toughness issues by a mile, he is mentally and emotionally a misfit with Gilas, where everyone tries to win with toughness unto the last bit, Ray-ray will just be there to try to be cute... he has the absence of rings on his fingers to prove this point.

When the going gets tough, the tough get going... sans a Ray-ray.
Drop the Ray-ray, and be a Bobby Ray 2 instead, he'd soon be talking.

                      • Parks offensive gifts with his defensive effort and playmaking is a must in our A team, the only thing hindering him is maturity and toughness. Because if he do have it, Castro would never get the burden anymore..
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
                        1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.

At this point, he should have been part of the cadet team already (i guess there's no $ there). And additionally, at this point we are still not sure how he performs vs. better competition (Yes, ABL stint was a waste of time since it's the ABL.)
If there is no basketball in heaven, i am NOT going.

do you think in terms of development he would've been better off playing in the PBA and maybe sign a 2 year contract here and then try in NBA after?

                            • i wonder if the cadet program of SBP will be every year? i mean if annually, they will add more cadets in the pool wherein they'd still be allowed to be drafted but can be called upon when the duty arises?can anyone share?

If it makes sense to recruit a player yes, if for example Keifer or Parks accept the " arrangement deal" that the SBP offers , yes. Knowing the precedent , which is the PBA in turn will say the cadet recruited will have to join the PBA " special draft" , then yes it's feasible for all parties to agree to ( Player, SBP and the PBA) . I'm sure the PBA would not want to be left out with the possibility of a Keifer playing in the PBA
