So long as it isn't that shittastic USA team they've invited the last few years I am happy.

Also, tickets seem impossible to purchase this year. Went to a 7/11 and the tickets are unavailable! Very annoying.
Canada team is agreat alternative, just in case Mighty wouldn't come..

Good that this guys are promoted, they can be very serviceable to the team for at least 5 years, and I shortsellinga s guys like Yang Chih Min is still the nt for the almost 15 years already hahahaha

The talent in the wing position is super stacked, I see many young bigs in Taiwan to make tien lei retire.. the guard play is a lot to be deire imo..
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..

Popular Ginebra import Vernon Macklin is back in town, but for a different mission
From: Snow Badua July 18, 2016, 03:41 pm

FORMER Ginebra import Vernon Macklin quietly slipped into town last Saturday, but he's not making a PBA comeback.

At least, not in the immediate future.

Instead, the high-flying former Florida Gators standout has been tapped to reinforce Philippine representitive Mighty Sports in the Jones Cup tournament in Chinese-Taipei which gets going this weekend.

“We are happy to have made him sign and play for us. Macklin is a legend among diehard PBA fans, especially those of Ginebra,” said Jean Alabanza, team manager of Mighty Sports, in confirming Macklin's signing.

Alabanza bared that since they are having a hard time in forming a Philippine team, Mighty Sports was forced to recruit seven reinforcements to beef up a local lineup made up of former PBA cagers Sunday Salvacion, Larry Rordiguez and TY Tang, Rain or Shine reserve Jeric Teng, amateur standout Edric Ferrer and Fil-foreign ABL star Jason Brickman.

Mighty initially wanted Kiefer Ravena and Kevin Ferrer, but sources said the two did not get clearance from the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), which is grooming the former college stars to spearhead the new Gilas cadets team.

Joining Macklin in the seven-import squad are former Barako Bull reinforcement Michael Singletary, Zach Graham (Air 21), KBL mainstay Dewarick Spencer, Senegalese star Hamadi N’Diaye, former NLEX import Al Thornton and Turkish league veteran Troy Gillenwater.

Well-known import agent Sheryl Reyes was one of the architects of the Mighty Sports team by bringing in Thornton, N’Diaye and Macklin.

Alabanza hopes that they will perform well in the Jones Cup, one of the longest-running and most prestigious tournaments in Asia which the Philippines has won four times, the last in 2012 with a Gilas Pilipinas team led by eventual tournament MVP LA Tenorio.

“Hindi ko na inaano ‘yun (mapasama sa pool) eh,” Santos said. “Kung susumahin mo ang buhay naming mga player, ‘san ba talaga ang first priority namin, ‘di ba? Ang first priority ko, dahil dito ko nakuha lahat ng kagandahan ng buhay ko at para sa pamilya ko, ang San Miguel. Alam naman ng lahat ‘yun. Ito ang dapat kong paglingkuran.”

The Jet needs to take over after Lin retired, he'll be their main gunner at SG I imagine.

Bo Perasol is their coach .. I am not sure the motivation level of the imports as all 7 of them are applying for jobs for the next season in the asian and other leagues leagues thru this tournament..

At least Torman understudy Charles Tiu is one of his assts. but how much

Its a pride thing for mighty and business, they will be jackpot if all 7 of them got a job internationally and in the pba

The burn is scattered as I think 5 imports would play first so that they got ample pt and not burning them out by playing them for 8 straight days..

So Bauermann is in charge with the whole Iranaian nt basketball program, and does it mean his job is secured even if somehow Iran cannot manage to get the gold at home in Sept?

yes he is, somehow. he is supposed to be a kind of an adviser to the junior team.

and yes as far as I know, they renewed his contract till 2019 World Cup. I don't even know how much they will take this Challenge Cup serious but this won't be like Asian Championship or something. those guys in federation like him, he enjoys Iran, players like him apparently , so he will stay, he is not probably the best tactician coach , but they think he is good to develop our new generation.

                                Good question.

THis year's tournament has had very little coverage, little promotion and little information. It was even difficult to buy tickets, regular outlets did not seem to have them. I finally secured some tickets for the 30th. Im not sure what the reason is behind all this, maybe it is a bit of a down year competition wise, or because the increase in popularity has allowed it to coast on ticket sales.
