Hartmann: What Was That All About?

Mark Hartmann produced another wonderful goal and assures fans that the only way for Sarawak to go, is up.

      BY OOI KIN FAI
      25-Feb-2017 19:56:25

If his last few performances are any indication, Sarawak fans will be rubbing their hands with glee at the prospect of Mark Hartmann continuing to feature prominently for the Crocs. Having scored a stunning free kick earlier in the season, Hartmann added another one to the growing list with another long-range effort in the 3-1 win over PKNS on Saturday.

"Good performance from the team. We would have liked to not conceded that last goal. It was a very open match but we did enough today to get the three points," said Hartmann after the match.

Deployed in a new position as coach David Usop tweaked the formation against PKNS, Hartmann was playing off Mateo Roskam and he was happy to have been able to contribute in any way and had a great influence on the match despite the unfamiliarity with the position.

"Today we changed to a 4-5-1 where I played a little bit deeper and that means I could get on the ball a bit more. Obviously attacking wise, Roskam was a bit alone so it was important for me and Lee [Jong Ho] to get a bit up. It worked obviously," explained a pleased Hartmann.

When asked if he will no be known for being a threat with his shooting from distance, Hartmann indicated that it is not something that he's used to in his career but happy that it's falling into place for him now, in that regards.

Despite the win, actually a bad game for Global as Beongket Angkor is not really that strong a team. I expected them to at least score 1-2 more goals, and they didn't.

In what is probably the best performance by a Philippine Football Club in international competitions so far, Ceres-Negros FC not only beat Singapore's Tampines Rovers FC, but utterly routs and blanks them. Again, Tampines is one of the best clubs in the S-League, and to see them humbled before a huge Philippine home crowd is simply amazing.

              The Ceres Negros Panaad Experience

Ceres Negros lead the way - on and off the field.
              Thursday, March 9, 2017

Ceres Negros FC put on a dominant display as they demolished Tampines Rovers in their second group match of the 2017 AFC Cup in front of a packed Panaad Stadium in Bacolod.

Three first half goals from Ceres put the Busmen on their way to a comfortable victory, with Tampines Rovers struggling to find answers.

New signing Iain Ramsay made a dream start for his new team Ceres with a superb strike in the opening seconds of the match, as Ceres never looked back.

Signed from Kaya FC in the offseason to boost the squad, OJ Porteria and Junior Muñoz put in splendid performances in their debuts in front of their home fans as well.

With Coach Thomas Dooley watching from the stands, Azkals goalkeeper Roland Muller and Jeffrey Christiaens impressed in overpowering a surprisingly overmatched S. League side.

Displaying crisp passing and quick one-twos, the Bacolod side issued a statement of great intent to the rest of their group.

But what's more impressive is not just the performance on the pitch, but the preparation the management of Ceres put in prior to hosting the match.

From the banners lining up the airport arrival halls, to the posters lining up the streets of Bacolod, to the giant billboards with the players' faces plastered in the highways, Ceres Negros FC made sure that all efforts were made to ensure all in Bacolod knew of the magnitude of the game.

And the fans duly came in droves.

Bucking rainy weather the whole day, yellow clad supporters packed Panaad Stadium to give their support to their home team.

Global Queen City FC lost badly via a rout against the Malaysian Football club Johor Darul Ta'zim. Their lackluster win against a weak Cambodian club last week shows that this team isn't at the level where they should be, and it finally caught up with them in this game.

Ceres-Negros FC could only manage a scoreless draw at home against a tough Malaysian Football club, Felda United. Roland Mueller managed to do a number of impressive saves including a Penalty shot to keep the score nil-nil. They will now have to face Felda in Malaysia.

AFC Cup: Can Ceres Deliver on the Road Once Again?

Ceres-Negros stakes an undefeated away record in the AFC Cup against Felda United. Can they silence the Malaysian fans?

In any sport, playing away from home is a challenge. Delayed flights, arduous layovers, obnoxious fans, unfamiliar food, and dodgy dressing rooms are only some of the reasons why visiting teams struggle.

This week Global have the benefit of playing at home in the AFC Cup as they take on JDT in Rizal Memorial on Wednesday. But Ceres must venture out to Malaysia to tackle Felda United at the cavernous Shah Alam stadium outside Kuala Lumpur. It's 80,372 seats may not be filled, but no doubt home support will be strong.

Felda actually plays in the Tun Abdul Razak Stadium 190 kilometers away, but this match will be closer to KL, a huge break already for Ceres. The afternoon kickoff might also deter some working fans from making the trip.

The Busmen are at the midpoint of their 2017 campaign and are undefeated in three matches in this round-robin group stage. They opened the stage with a 1-1 draw at Hanoi, clobbered Tampines at home 5-0, then were held to a goalless standoff in Panaad against this same Felda team. The Filipinos are atop the standings in Group G on five points, level with Hanoi but have the benefit of a better goal difference.

Ceres tends to take road games seriously. According to team manager James Dinsay, AFC Cup teams have assistance on their road expenses two days before every matchday. The club, however, often prefers go three days earlier, with the club footing the bill for the extra day. This time Ceres will fly to Malaysia on Sunday, just two days previous. Dinsay says coach Risto Vidakovic has decided to work on his tactics with his team in Manila for a bit more, especially since he lost training days during the FIFA window.

Vidakovic will be missing some key players to his squad. Manny Ott is suspended for the match on accumulated yellows. Since he was unavailable for the Azkals' game against Nepal last week due to a back injury, he might have skipped this match anyway. Ott's creativity will be sorely missed in the middle of the park.

Kevin Ingreso might not be fit enough for the game. The midfielder is nursing a gimpy hamstring. Offseason acquisition Simone Rota has been training but is likely not going to see action until the PFL begins sometime in late April. He is still recovering from knee injury. Wide player Patrick Reichelt is still far away from being fit. He may start training in June.

Another new pick up for Ceres is Filipino-Iranian-Swede Omid Nazari. The striker is a Filipino passport holder who unfortunately cannot suit up for the Azkals since he has already played for Iran. Nazari is not registered for the AFC Cup but supposedly his name can be added to the list for the knockout stages. Nazari last played in the Philippines for Global. Look for him to terrorize defenses in the PFL, where he can apparently be registered as a Filipino.

Ceres have brought in two new Spaniards into their lineup, Manuel “Super” Herrera, a centerback, and striker Fernando Rodriguez. There is also another Spaniard on their staff, conditioning coach Pepe Losada. The team's Asian import this year is defender Kota Kawase from Japan.

Global-Cebu FC edges Johor Darul Ta'zim FC in the 2017 AFC Cup. GCFC made a good adjustment from their previous game and scored three goals in the first half.

But JDTFC made a counter adjustment in the second half and nearly caught up with them.
