There's some talk that a star player in Kyung Hee University named Kim Cheol-uk and a possible candidate for the South Korean NT is actually a Chinese player former known as Wu Dilong. Wu Dilong was from Heilongjiang, China and went to South Korea in 2009. He is projected a top 4 pick in the KBL draft.

BTW, there's also a star player in the WKBL named Jin An who was actually a Taiwanese formerly known as Hsu Hsiao-tung. She was the 2nd pick in the 2015 WKBL draft.

It is true about Kim Cheol-Uk. He got his citizenship at age 17 and could have gone as 1st pick overall last year had he not pull out due to an MCL injury. Kim's name is floating around as a naturalized player for the NT. At 204cm and a PF, he can immediately help the NT.

Kim Sun-Hyung's thoughts on FIBA Asia: http://www.fiba.com/news/kim-sunhyun...r-2017-success

He's right Korea needs a stronger front-line but will always be challenged in the paint. Traditionally, Koreans used to trap the inside and send out a second block to nullify an outlet pass. That worked so well during the time of Seo Jang-Hoon and Lee Chang-Soo. In Ha Seung-Jin's time, Ha despite 7'3 was a poor defender inside and as he grew older, became less and less productive on offense and defense.

The tandem of Kim Jong-Kyu and Lee Jong-Hyun shows promise but can be overpowered by Hamed Haddadi or China's multiple bigmen. Currently, Jong-Kyu is Korea's starting center and Lee Jong-Hyun to be back him up. Jong-Hyun has a much better defensive ability as Korea with Jong-Kyu almost has zero interior defense like what Kim Joo-Sung used to provide.

Korea's NT front-court has the following depth chart:

        Kim Jong-Kyu, Lee Jong-Hyun, Jang Jae-Seok, Oh Se-Keun
Lee Seung-Hyun, Kim Junil, Kang Sangjae, Choi Bu-Kyung, Jeong Hyo-Geun.

        Best defensive combination: Jong-Hyun + Se-Keun
        Best offensive combination: Jong-Kyu + Seung-Hyun

Samsung's Ricardo Ratliff expressed his earnest interest in attaining a Korean citizenship and perhaps play for the national team in the future. At age 28 and at 200cm, Ratliff can help bolster the power forward position. He has gained reputation in Korea as a very professional and reliable player, with his championship in Ulsan and now helping Samsung back into contender status.

Ratliff's prospect as a naturalized player is not set in stone but it adds to the potential list of naturalized player for Korea. Kim Cheol-Uk, who is originally from China is 204cm and is a project for KGC. Ratliff is in his prime and can instantly help the national team.

Head coach of the NT, Hur Jae have yet to comment on Ratliff's naturalization. Samsung or a KBA stakeholder must sponsor Ratliff to initiate the due process for naturalization.

Legally, KBA cannot pay him to make him play for the national team as under the Korean Sports Commission's charter, that prohibits players in accepting money from organizations outside the prescribed compensation. What Ratliff can accept is the declared and agreed upon compensation by him and the KBA, that is mandated by the KSC and that too has limits on how much can he be compensated in terms of cash.

Plus, KBA, as an association cannot afford the salary and bonuses Ratliff gets from Samsung.

Head Coach Hur Jae, has expressed concern on the recent injuries of Kim Jong-Kyu (meniscus rupture) and Lee Jong-Hyun (minor stress fracture) and there are talks that he may opt to rest both the 206cm centers in the upcoming EABA (2-8 Jun) in order to save them up for FIBA Asia Cup and for future competitions.

WIthout Jong-Kyu and Jong-Hyun, Korea is facing a height challenge as most of the big men are mostly 200cm or below:

                        Oh Se-Keun 200cm
                        Jang Jae-Seok 203cm
                        Lee Seung-Hyun 197cm
                        Kim Junil 200cm
                        200cm Kang Sangjae
                        Choi Bu-Kyung 200cm
                        Choi Jin-Soo 202cm

With EABA, Korean can get away with having this depth chart:

                        Oh Se-Keun / Choi Bu-Kyung / Jang Jae-Seok
                        Lee Seung-Hyun / Kim Junil
                        Choi Joon-Young / Heo Il-Young

If Ratliff becomes a naturalized Korean, is he obligated to join the military for 2 years?

Ratliff won't be conscripted by him being a category 5 cadet under the Korean armed forces law. He will only be conscripted into the army when war threatens the motherland.

The Sandrin brothers, Tony Akins and the Moon brothers were also exempted from armed forces conscription even though their mothers are Korean nationals, by virtue of them not being registered under the Korean civil registry
