      Unfortunately, Spain's brightest prospect Iris Junio Mbulito is again lost for this season, after she suffered her 2nd ACL injury (same knee) in fall 2015. The Gran Canaria young star already played at the U17 in 2014 when she was 15, winning silver for Spain.

        Spain roster keeps the basic frame of the 2015 U16 team, with some additions.
        Without center Wone, Spain beat Portugal (Jordao-less) on a doubleheader challenge played late in Dec 2015 in Zaragoza.

          Finally, 143 players will attend USA Basketball trials starting today, including all 36 invitees and 107 applicants.
          It will indeed be a tremendous task for the selection committee to cut down this huge bunch of hopefuls to 12 finalists!

              It's going to be a very good tournament. No real standout teams...

              USA, Czech Republic, Portugal, Italy, Spain, Canada, Brazil, Australia all very similar talent wise.

              Most teams having at least one or two highly touted prospects.

                Australia U17 squad is in China, to play two "Four Nations" tournaments there, with the participation of Lithuania U18 NT, an US All-Star selection (mostly made of graduate players) and Chinese team (don't know what age class).
                First leg is scheduled from May 27-29.

                  Touring Australian team dropped its first game vs USA All-Stars 72-54. Despite being outmatched by a much more experienced competitor fielding three players drafted and then cut by WNBA and two with pro experience in Europe, young Aussies reportedly left a good impression in defense (Ezi Magbegor finished with 6 blocks) and in attack (Jazmin Shelley and Jasmine Simmons scored 14 and 13 points).
                  Game report from USA All-Stars' sponsor NetScouts Basketball:
                  Daishan, China – The NetScouts Basketball Women’s USA All-Stars squared off in an opening match against a formidable squad from Australia on the first day of the Daishan City Tournament.??Both teams struggled to get going early after having just arrived to the location from a long day of international travel.?In the end the Americans were […]

                      Czech team looked today far from an acceptable condition, losing to France 63-49. Disappointed Czech trainer said his team lacked focus and chemistry, hoping for a change of attitude in tomorrow's last friendly.

                        Czech Republic reacted from yesterday's loss and beat France 60-51, despite a slow start (26-25 for France at ht). Difference came in 2nd half, from CZE 3-pt shooting and FRA turnovers. French team had the edge on rebounds. Guards Barbora Jindrova and Julie Pospisilova scored 14 and 11 points, Clara Bretagne was high for France with 18. Czech Republic won the series 2-1.

                          USA Basketball trials keep on going and players roster is now down to 41, 15 are 2017-Class, 20 from 2018's, 5 2019's, and, surprisingly, one from 2020 (her name is Sydney Parrish and she's just 14!).
                          A 2015 U16 team's member, Bexley Wallace, has been cut, same fate for some high-ranked players, like Kiana Williams, Lexi Gordon (a UConn bound 2017-Class prospect), Mikayla Coombs, Zarielle Green , Amira Collins, as well as 2019's top prospects Chloe Chapman and Nyah Green.
                          From around 100 applicants just 15 have survived so far.

                            Australian Sapphires finished the first Chinese tournament with a 1-2 record. After dropping the opener against a much older US All-Star team, Australia was edged by a Chinese Junior team 71-70, and finally clearly won over Lithuania U18 74-61. Ezi Magbegor sparked Aussie team both in defense and in attack.

                              USA Basketball announced 18 finalists:

                              Janelle Bailey (C - 6-3, 2017 Class);
                              Rellah Boothe (F - 6-3, 2017);
                              Aliyah Boston (F - 6-3, 2019);
                              Jenna Brown (G - 5-10, 2018);
                              Samantha Brunelle (F - 6-2, 2019);
                              Charli Collier (F - 6-4, 2018);
                              Aquira DeCosta (F - 6-2, 2018);
                              Maya Dodson (F - 6-1, 2017);
                              Destanni Henderson (G - 5-8, 2018);
                              Nazahrah Hillmon (C - 6-2, 2018);
                              Taylor Mikesell (G - 5-9, 2018);
                              Alexis Morris (G - 5-6, 2017);
                              Olivia Nelson-Ododa (C - 6-4, 2018);
                              Sedona Prince (C - 6-7, 2018;
                              Abby Prohaska (G - 5-10, 2018);
                              Christyn Williams (G/F - 5-10, 2018);
                              Madison Williams (F - 5-10, 2018);
                              Zoe Young (G - 5-10, 2019)

                              Quite a surprising choice, just three members from the 2015 U16 team are back (DeCosta, Morris and Prince), 2018 is overwhelmingly represented with 11 members, 2017 has just four and 2019 three.
                              It's a very young roster and almost a totally new squad that will need to be rebuilt.
                              The 18 players will keep training in Colorado Springs until June 2, when the final 12-member team will be named.
