I bet its going to be China. The 'natural calamity' is just not on our side(the threat of 'The Big One' magnitude 7.2 earthquake waiting to happen is so large--oh gee I hope it wont happen in our lifetime! hope it wont happen at all!). And some of our proposed infras are not yet complete which FIBA is still weighing on. The transpo and accomodations for players and officials wont be a problem but the fans of the different countries will have a hard time, maybe but I can't really weigh on it because I have never been to china. Anyway by 2019, if sports tourists gets bored in their hotel, they can always gamble in our casinos. lol
But my heart wishes it to be Philippines...imagine us going against united states in elim round in 50,000 seater Philippine arena..omg and this time the ineligibles due to hagop rule are eligible! lol
If given a choice between hosting and tweaking eligibility rules, I'd pick the latter..
btw, if we fail in our bid for 2019, are we included in the choices for 2023? it wasnt mentioned in the FIBA report..TIALast edited by weward; 03-17-2015, 06:12 PM.

another thing that may affect the decision..
China actually was shortlisted, together with Spain and Italy, for the hosting rights for the 2014 FIBA World Cup - which we all know went to Spain.. since there were 3 shortlisted candidates, there were 2 rounds of voting.. the first round to eliminate 1 country and the second round to determine the final host.. in the first round, China was the country that was eliminated through voting..
so this is the second time China is serious in hosting the event.. that may influence the voting and give it to them.. however, this may also be seen as how the FIBA central board feels about China.. though China was shortlisted, they were the first to me eliminated..
so there..
China has done numerous sporting events (especially for FIBA).. 2008 Olympics, 2009 FIBA Asia Championships, 2011 FIBA Asia Championships.. so the FIBA Central board knows how to deal with China in terms of holding such events and the experience itself.. did FIBA have a nice experience or otherwise.. these are key to how they will decide on this.. on the otherhand, FIBA was very pleased with our lone FIBA event last 2013.. and they had a wonderful experience in Seville last year..
so I guess Coach chot and the rest of SBP has a point.. that our "PUSO" and passion can really be the deciding factor, alongside our very nice approach to visitors..
i was really thinking, the Olympics and 2009 and 2011 FIBA Asia tournaments were held in China, if FIBA had a nice experience with them, I think it was easy to give them the 2014 World Cup instead of Spain.. or probably because FIBA wants a host's team to beat USA and Spain was "SUPPOSED" to be that team..

another thing haha..
the power of social media... FIBA has recognized the power of social media through their campaigns and events.. yes yes yes, our internet is SO SLOW.. but i am pretty sure MVP and his PLDT broadband team will make things splendid..
but i'd like to ask, how is social media in China? as far as i know it is regulated and very strict.. of course by event time, it would be relaxed.. but imagine the power of social media and having an event like the 2019 FIBA World Cup in Manila.. especially in this digital age.. by 2019 i think more people would have access to online more than ever..

2. From my perspective this could be the tipping point and I would play this card the most (of course combined with love and passion for the game because it's required to fulfill the seating) - Arenas. Philippines have the biggest arenas in the world (soon 2 of them) and overall bigger arenas than China's. Check this picture I made:
wc2015.jpg
Arguments against:
1. Crime rates. They were on the rise in Q1 of 2014 compared to Q1 2013;
2. China is a more lucrative market for sponsors;
3. I don't think this will factor that much, but weather could also be an issue, but again, don't think this will factor much.
Finally back on the forum, good to be here , been working on a basketball games for months, I had so much work that I haven't seen a game in months.
Was happy when I saw that WC 2019 will be held in Asia, and I would be soooo happy if it come to be in Philippines. China is a big thing, but I think this is the right moment to choose Philippines, organized the FIBA Asia 2013, best fans on WC2014, showed some good basketball on WC2014 and big arenas. The momentum for this decision is here, hopefully MVP and the board can make the final push.
Can somebody please update me what's going on with the national team? Who's in, who's out, new potential players, Blache, etc.?
I guess SEABA Championship should be no problem, I see no team that could endanger Gilas there, especially for the top 3 positions for the FIBA Asia. There I would like to Tab to set up the foundations for the the team that will play for gold on FIBA Asia, I think he'll do fine.

I don't want to be pessimistic but guys, China is one of the largets economy in the world, China already has the infrastructure, the basketball courts, bullet trains, roads, etc. And they are a Communist country, every body is there puppets, no one can be against them, so peace and order is not there problem. But we hope and pray that miracles happen that Fiba will choose our humble country.sigpic

The main setback for us I think is infrastructure, especially airports and roads. Fans, teams, and officials will want easy and convenient transportation to and from the different venues. Hopefully projects like the new airport road, NLEX-SLEX interconnection, the Laguna Lakeshore Expressway, and the Makati-Pasay-BGC subway will be completed by 2019.
