But this only applies to overseas born Filipinos, Philippine-born Filipino-Foreigners are classified as "Locals" and does not have the same requirements as Overseas-born Filipinos (Full or Part) in order to qualify for the Draft.LABAN KUNG LABAN! KAYA NATIN PILIPINAS!

I think the teams would rather choose Protect 8 or Protect 10 rather than give the 3 new teams a direct hire.
They stand to lose Ray Parks, Chris Banchero and Stanley Pringle even if they give up just 1 direct hire each.
Ideally I would like the concession to be 1 direct hire + Protect 10. This way guys like Cawaling, Monfort, Forrester and company will have a chance to shine.

1) As per PBA Official Jun Bengua, Justin is classified as a "local" since he was able to present documentary proof that he was born in Angeles, Pampanga.
2) Justin who was born April 7, 1987 was already over the age limit set by the PBA for D-League. Initially the players joining the D-League should be between 17 to 26 years old by October 15 but effective last season the league allowed teams to enlist players who are over the age limit of 26 but not over 28 provided they are PBA veteran or rookie free agents.
3) Justin had played for Smart Gilas in the 2013 Dubai International Invitational Championship and the 19th Super Kung Sheung Cup International Basketball Invitational Championship (King’s Cup) at Hong Kong.
The PBA considers the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) as a rival Professional League, so the time spent by Melton with the Westports Malaysia Dragons as a Philippine Passport bearing ASEAN Import for Filipino Coach Ariel Vanguardia is not counted in the "residency" requirements by the PBA.Last edited by nardy; 04-16-2014, 07:52 PM.LABAN KUNG LABAN! Oh i didnt know melton played for gilas...then there you go, thanks for the explanation. In short melton was already over the age limit thus he did not need to suit up for the dleague. Other locals though are still required as long as they are under the age limit. Reason why guys like la revilla and ryan buenafe was in the dleague for at least a conference before being eligible for the draft.
