unlike the time of the PBL and Liga Pilipinas that Fil-Foreigners are required a specific minimal number of games in order to be eligible for the PBA Rookie Draft, one has to play at least 2 conferences at the PBA D-League with no specific number of games.

But this only applies to overseas born Filipinos, Philippine-born Filipino-Foreigners are classified as "Locals" and does not have the same requirements as Overseas-born Filipinos (Full or Part) in order to qualify for the Draft.

still these locals are required one conference of dleague play...assuming of course they are under the age limit. if they are over then they can apply outright...it think it's 26.

imo, kia might get stanley pringle and possibly tautuaa as direct hires if ever PBA gives 3 or 5 direct hires.

Does it mean Chris Blake need one conference dleague play if he wishes to apply in the draft? He was born in the Phil.

if he is under age limit then yes he would need at least one.

I think the teams would rather choose Protect 8 or Protect 10 rather than give the 3 new teams a direct hire.

They stand to lose Ray Parks, Chris Banchero and Stanley Pringle even if they give up just 1 direct hire each.

Ideally I would like the concession to be 1 direct hire + Protect 10. This way guys like Cawaling, Monfort, Forrester and company will have a chance to shine.

not true bro. all locals/fil-foreigners born in the philippines are not required to play a single game in the d-league (junmar, melton) to be eligible for the pba draft. fil-foreigners born overseas who can play outright in the pba without going through the d-league route are those 1) who are already 27 by the time of the draft (pringle); and 2) those who are part of the national team (lassiter/lutz route)

Yes that is another possibility...be part of the NT first. Melton was a part of a team's dleague lineup iirc...even if he did not play. Junmar is a different case...binraso ng san mig.

i think this is the reason why the rule on locals having to play in the d-league first for a number of conferences was scrapped haha

Didn't Melton played with the cadets?

On Justin Melton's case I was in close coordination with his Manager, Jouie Ramos to make sure he would no longer be required to play at the D-League. There were 3 reasons why he skipped D-League.

                              1) As per PBA Official Jun Bengua, Justin is classified as a "local" since he was able to present documentary proof that he was born in Angeles, Pampanga.

                              2) Justin who was born April 7, 1987 was already over the age limit set by the PBA for D-League. Initially the players joining the D-League should be between 17 to 26 years old by October 15 but effective last season the league allowed teams to enlist players who are over the age limit of 26 but not over 28 provided they are PBA veteran or rookie free agents.

                              3) Justin had played for Smart Gilas in the 2013 Dubai International Invitational Championship and the 19th Super Kung Sheung Cup International Basketball Invitational Championship (King’s Cup) at Hong Kong.

The PBA considers the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) as a rival Professional League, so the time spent by Melton with the Westports Malaysia Dragons as a Philippine Passport bearing ASEAN Import for Filipino Coach Ariel Vanguardia is not counted in the "residency" requirements by the PBA.

Oh i didnt know melton played for gilas...then there you go, thanks for the explanation. In short melton was already over the age limit thus he did not need to suit up for the dleague. Other locals though are still required as long as they are under the age limit. Reason why guys like la revilla and ryan buenafe was in the dleague for at least a conference before being eligible for the draft.
