BRA-ITA 19-5 at halftime, a nightmare game in offense for Italian girls so far, they were 0-26 FG until 1 and 1/2' to go. Now they have improved to 1-30 FG.

Better switch to Australia-Slovakia, interesting game with the Aussies leading but with a thin margin.

Hungary upset Czech Republic in another OT win, 88-85, behind 27 pts from its best player Debora Dubei, a fine performer. For CZE, Julia Reisingerova 28 pts and 16 reb.

In another interesting game, Australia narrowly won over Slovakia to stay unbeaten. Today, it was guard Jasmine Forcadilla to step up in scoring and Anneli Maley in rebounding. Australian team doesn't look so talented but as always plays with a lot of intensity.

The same intensity was applied today by Canada in a clear win over Korea, with its star player Park deceiving today.

Sweet revenge of USA vs France with an overwhelming win, last Q result (26-1) is selfexplanatory. Best scorers K-L Samuelson and Asia Durr, but 11 on 12 US players scored. Fine performance of Sabrina Ionescu, a quick do-it-all player today.

Brazil started the championship very well and will clash tomorrow with unbeaten Spain to establish the first place in their group.

Credit Canada's defense for the win over South Korea. That and the offense was cold for the Korean girls. What I like about the consolation for this game with Korea is that other players are now trying to be active in the offense as Park Ji-Su cannot do it all alone at this level.

Australia leading by just 2 pts vs Mexico at halftime.

Alexandra Sharp is the only Aussie with a decent shooting, so far. Mexico made some threes, but is of course losing the battle under the boards.

Most interesting games today Czech Republic vs Canada, Hungary vs Korea and Japan vs Slovakia, the most hard fought. With its narrow win JPN is 2nd in its group and will clash with China (heavily defeated today by France) in the Round of 16.

CZE always led over Canada but was strongly challenged in the 2nd half and won thanks to another huge game of its best player Julia Reisingerova and her teammate Tereza Sipova. Bridget Carleton and Kendra Van Leeuwen topped Canadian scorers. Canada is playing without its starting F/C Eternati Willock who was injured at the end of game 1.

Hungary enjoyed a big lead over Korea, but an incredible comeback in Q3 of the Asians led by Ji Su Park almost reversed the result. Besides scoring and rebounding Park recorded 7 steals and 6 bs.

            Korea will play Spain, other games Canada-Brazil, Slovakia-France, USA-Mexico, Australia-Mali, Czech Republic-Italy, Hungary-Egypt.

Very bad first half for Korea and their comeback felt short. 2nd half showed a gutsy rally by the Korean girls with Park Ji-Su and Kim Ji-Young leading the charge.

Clever ! Well, players can get confused sometimes, see here:

But what are referees supposed to do ? Wrong play continued and wasn't stopped...and the basket was credited to a Mexican player who was out at that moment.

Canada beats Brazil. Group A was clearly the toughest. USA/Canada/Brazil/Mexico all in the same quadrant of the bracket.

Surprising halftime results: Italy leads over Czech Republic +6 and Slovakia is up +5 over France.
Czech girls always trailing, Italian team (finally) displays good shooting.

Japan is in the final eight after a good win over a deceiving China and will meet in the quarters Hungary who was the first team reaching the 100-mark in a rout of Egypt.

Italy played its best game in the tournament but wasn't enough and lost 61-57 to Czech Republic. Italians led througout all the game and Czech team was ahead just in the final minute, increasing the margin in the last seconds.

Copy game France-Slovakia, with the French who took the lead in the final minute or so and won by five.

                        Anyway, two nails biting games.

Czech Republic takes Australia in the quarters, and France the winner of Korea-Spain.

Korea losing to Spain 80-51 despite Park Ji-Su's determined stand of 15 points and 16 rebounds. 2nd quarter struggles as well as the offense being shutdown ended Korea's hopes in this one. Awesome game for Angel Salva.

USA looking strong today after a slow start. Semi against Hungary could be interesting as Hungary is one of the few teams in the tournament that has shown an ability to score consistently.

Australia continuing to find talent in the kids of American NBL imports.

Other semifinal is Czech Republic vs Spain.

With host team enjoying a 10-pt lead in the 2nd half Australia rallied back late in Q4 but missed all FG attempts in the last 2' and game was over.
Julia Reisingerova didn't have the usual production but teammates Sipova and Holesinska got scoring honors.

Spain was surprised by good French start, then showed to be the better team led by Angela Salvadores and 15-y Iris Junio.

Mikaela Brewer hero of head-to-head game won by Canada over Japan 46-45. She scored two threes in the final minute, last one with 1" to go, amazing finish.
Canada will meet the winner of Australia-France for the 5th place.
