  • Fictional Scenario: What if?

Now that the AC 2013 is over.
Let's assume Lebanon didn't get the ban and they were in Manilla for the championship.
Which place do you think Lebanon would have finish the tournament? And why?

Ghassan handdling the team? 60% they will go to spain and doesnt consider that mediocre performance of china
coach not Sakis Thez will go to spain 95%

Right now best team to match up Iran because of Woods
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
    1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.

never really saw lebanon play this year. add to that, it was july already and you just started training in the jones cup. on paper, with julian kazzouh, iran would have been in trouble. but you never really know.

lebanon would really have been a tough team to take out in the knockouts.

its really the big question mark for this tournament.

Why the rate goes down when GS is handling the team? Curious to know!

I didn't notice this thread until now.

I think Lebanon will finish from 5th to 6th place had it played in the tournament. I cite Lebanon's limited time of preparation for this expectation. As what budz17 mentioned, Lebanon only started its preparation in the Jones Cup, and naturalized player Loren Woods joined the team at the middle of the Jones Cup. It was also uncertain if Julian Khazzouh would have joined the team if ever there was no suspension.

There's absolutely no doubt, Lebanon is a powerhouse team in Asia. But just like any Asian team, it needs enough time to prepare. If we take a close look at the eventual top 4 teams - Iran, Philippines, Korea & Taiwan, those teams had prepared well for the tournament. Even mighty China could only finish 5th & out of the 2014 World Championship. I think China also wasn't as prepared as most of the teams. The Chinese had some new players (young & inexperienced players) & its coach is also new to the team & had some relationship problems with the players.

For the Philippines part, we have to admit that Lebanon's suspension meant one less obstacle for us in the eliminations. Had Lebanon been there, Gilas Pilipinas' road to the quarterfinals would have been more difficult.
"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

Imo he just can't optimize talent of his players aside from Fadi.. Rony Fahed should have been in this team....

seems his system revolve primarily on Khatib..sometimes its successful but most of the time, it can be failure especially in a long and tiring competition..
