  • Asean Basketball League Season 3(2013)

    Hey guys,

let us discuss ABL's new season. it will start january next year.

Indonesia Warriors will have virtually an intact lineup.
KL Dragons will beef up having Moala Tautua and the reliable Cabahug
SMB's lineup will be beefed up also.
    Saigon will have Jai Reyes

no updates yet for Slammers and Cobras since i think most of their players are still playing in the local league in thailand. im not sure. i think it just got concluded.
while there is no news yet for the Brunei Barracudas.

personally, i can't wait for Asi Taulava and Kwan Yoon Jing's reunion.lols.

What were the results of these games?

CEBUANOS will be treated to another high-quality basketball action when the M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala Niños play the San Miguel Beermen of the Asian Basketball League (ABL) in two exhibition games next week at the Cebu Coliseum.

The two tune-up games will be held on Oct. 26 and 27. Preliminary games will feature the Southwestern University Cobras, the newly 2012 Cesafi champions, and the University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars.

The Beermen, who are raring to bounce back from a championship loss to the Indonesia Warriors this year, are already busy assembling a team for the upcoming 2013 season of the ABL.

The brand new season will start on January.

The Bobby Parks Sr.-coached Beermen are composed mainly of former PBA players led by Asi Taulava, Erik Menk, Leo Avenido, Chris Luanzon, Rob Labagala, Paulo Hubalde, JR Cawaling, RJ Rizada, Val Acuña, and Hans Thiele. The team is reinforced by two imports in former PBA best import awardee Gabe Freeman and Brian Williams.

Ticket prices for the upcoming exhibitions are pegged at P30 (general admission), P100 (upper box), P150 (lower box), P200 (stage, reserved seats) and P250 (coutside). /EDITORIAL ASSISTANT CALVIN D. CORDOVA and correspondent Jonas Panerio

Will Tony Boy back the team to his lonesome?

its confirmed. Philippine Patriots and Bangkok Cobras are not joining this years edition of ABL.

teams for this season are the following

                        SMB Beermen
                        Indonesia Warriors
                        KL Dragons
                        Saigon Heat
                        Thailand Slammers
                        Singapore Slingers

SMB vs IW on January 11, 2013.. a rematch from last season's finals.

Indonesia has virtually the same lineup while SMB basically revamped.

IW has delegated Gunawan to its IBL team and will be replaced by Sitepu a 6'8 shooter.

IW acquired the services of Jeric Canada of adamson, he was quite popular in indonesia. they have also signed Steve Thomas. both will arrive by the end of this month in indonesia and will start training camp next month.

im not quite sure if their going to replace Salansang as Sitepu can virtually take his spot as a tall shooter of the team, they might get another filipino to replace salansang but with a different skillset or they might call up a player from its IBL team. while for their second import their still negotiating with Evan Brock. im not sure if the deal has been pushed thru. as far as i know he's playing in other country.

Sad that the Patriots won't be playing this season and perhaps beyond. At the same time, this will be the perfect opportunity for MVP to look at the possibility of having a team in the ABL.

Final Score: Guangsha Lions 66-59 Slingers. Kyle Jeffers 22 points and 15 rebounds. Jun Cabatu 10 pts.

GlobalPort Batang Pier shoot lights out against Slingers 88-80. Kyle Jeffers had 23 pts and Don Dulay added 13 pts.

Reports say Singapore Slingers played with 2 imports, although I'm not sure if this means Jeffers and Dulay. Global Port played with 8 guys: Ex Patriots Raymundo (who got injured in the 3rd and did not continue), Ex Cobras Marvin Cruz, Ex Dragons Rudy Lingganay, Ex PBA MVP Miller, Ex Smart Gilas pool Guevarra, PBA Rookie Mandani, reserve player (but multiple ASIAN All-star during the 90s and former rival of Taulava) Adducul and Assistant Coach CHARLES TIU (brother of Smart Gilas star and SEA games gold medalist Chris Tiu). For some reason David and the other regulars did not play (even Vergara did not play, plus you would think they could have used Rabeh if only to maximize his huge salary) -forcing Assistant Coach Charles Tiu to play, getting 7 points plus some steals. Some say he played varsity in high school, but Charles Tiu is more known for being an assistant coach. I don't know what happened with the Slingers, as other than the injured Raymundo (6'5), and the 36 year old Adducul (6'6), the next tallest guy that played is Guevarra (6'2 at the most), the rest are below 6 feet or thereabouts. Boracay Waves should be ready as they might be on the receiving end of a pissed-off Kyle Jeffers and company.

That must be an embarrassingly confidence buster. Charles Tiu beating your supposedly pro team.
