Smart Gilas at the FIBA Asia Cup (Sep. 14-22)

I am only worried about our PBA scoring Champ Gary David. He just seems out of synch with International Basketball. He has shown glimpses in some stretches, but he has not been that knock down shooter we would have liked to have in the lineup. Chan and Fonacier are consistent enough to carry the load for now but we need "El Granada" to show us the way against CT in the QF knock out match.

I want to see the Gary David that burned TNT in a seven game series.

Not only Gary David, LA also hasn't been that prolific since that game vs USA. Good thing we have Jared providing some scoring when our 3's won't fall, but when they're all tired from providing defense and Chan's, Fonacier's & Norwood's shooting sours, we need Gary & LA to step up to help Marcus & Jared. JR Reyes & Ganuelas hopefully can also be more consistent with their shooting & defense when given minutes.

our PBA players were used to playing games even in their off-nights and we still have that heart of a never-say-die spirit
maybe QF and SF and all the way to Finals our players will give their all to win, we already tasted that winning feeling and it's not possible now to do it again in FIBA Asia Cup

Being a Devils Advocate:

if they'll ask what do you want more winning the 2012 Tokyo FIBA-Asia Cup or winning the bid to Host the 2013 FIBA-Asia Championship?

You can only get one of them not both.

What would be your answer ?????

Isn't it that hosting in 2013 will give the hosts a better chance to snag a slot for the FIBA world championships? what are the reasons for this "better chance"? If it increases our chances then the latter is so much better. FIBA Asia 2012 is only practice time

I agree. We need to bring our A game from now on. I even like JR Reyes more than Thoss now. He seems more focused compared to either E-Vill and Thoss at this stage. He looks like he is here to impress the coaching staff with his International brand of play. He is essentially an effective 4 who can also stretch the defense with his treys. I personally would have him backing up Ranidel at the 4 instead of Thoss so that when M Douhtit is double teamed inside he can literally kick the ball out to any of the 4 players on the court.

We would probably see more of JR in the coming games.

I agree but if it goes to voting China always have the number. That's the irony of it all in FIBA-Asia they recognize democracy wherein majority wins.

We really have to pray hard for our people now in Tokyo do good and I have to be candid about it MVP should have brought his US Dollar or Euro Check Book and be ready to become overwhelming generous.

MVP should ask for a refund if politics comes into play.

If you're familiar with the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, the home-away qualification format only encompasses teams within a continent. It will still be Asian team vs Asian team.

back to topic: if home and away will be the format, that will mean the length of the tournament will be spread to at least a month. the PBA should really compress the 3 conferences to a 9 month time frame to allow our players to have more time to jell and practice...

But in FIFA, the home and away goals are accumulated, obviously can't do that with bball. best of 3 or 5 series is the answer i guess and whichever is ranked higher has the homecourt advantage. In this case its similar to Davis Cup of Tennis.
