“Hindi ko na inaano ‘yun (mapasama sa pool) eh,” Santos said. “Kung susumahin mo ang buhay naming mga player, ‘san ba talaga ang first priority namin, ‘di ba? Ang first priority ko, dahil dito ko nakuha lahat ng kagandahan ng buhay ko at para sa pamilya ko, ang San Miguel. Alam naman ng lahat ‘yun. Ito ang dapat kong paglingkuran.”

The title favorites in these tourney coincidentally ..

are ALL playing in the Jones Cup..

barring China will pick some main stays to reinforce the team which is 95% of the unlikely
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
      1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.

no, only the champion. Usually the two best teams from the sub-zones qualify, in our case SEABA, but this year the subzones increased from 5 to 6, so i don't know its ramifications yet. i'd say we have no problems qualifying for fiba asia nonetheless.

Our NT for this tournament will and should be our NT for the Asian Championships.

No more try outs, no more practice, it's time to gel, polish plays and learn how to play well as a team.

I hope there's still a chance for Stanley Pringle and Ryan Reyes to be included. Norwood and Chan should be a lock as well.

Will Lassiter and Lutz play for our NT again?

Thank GOD that it's Uzbekistan & not Kazakstan who will represent the Central Asia sub-zone! Mas malakas ang tsansa natin to finish respectably in this tournament. If China send it's team-B, then mas lalakas ulit chance natin. But of course the downside is, RP won't get as much quality competition if that happens. And we need that to develop & improve our team.
"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

It's ok not to win it all. We can scout other teams here too. As we all know, we don't have a problem on beating our SEA neighbors hence no need to show all our cards here. We must all remember that our target is 2013 FIBA WORLD CUP not the JONES CUP/CHAMPIONS CUP/STANKOVIC CUP or whatever CUP besides the WORLD CUP..

a good placing is enough for STANKOVIC to at least helps us improve our FIBA Rankings though.

You don't merit FIBA rankings in these tournament either...
But again to the casual filipino fans.. we never won anything in Asian Basketball Scene ever since 1998..

as for the name itself its not just an ordinary Olympic/World Cup qualifying tournament it is for the "Asia Cup"

whether its team a or team b for china, our team is on the "lighter" group.

whether we finish 1st or 2nd during the preliminaries, it will mean going against taipei, qatar, or japan in the quarters. thus the experience will be better becos we will facing relatively strong teams right in the quarters.

its possible that most if not all the tnt players in the elite pool will play in this cup since after the tournament, 1 or 2 weeks nalang pba na. its also possible that a maximum of 1 or 2 players from each participating team (except the vips in the smc camp) will be part of the team so as not to significantly affect the preparation of the pba clubs. yes, its not ideal but just saying that these are possibilities.

forgive my ignorance but are you guys saying that the stankovic has no effect whatsoever in one's fiba rankings? if so, then the only consolation one could get from this tourney is if you perform really well (top 2 or 4?) you get an automatic slot in the 2013 fiba asia?

Yep and anyways the top teams would get to join the FIBA Asia anyway by dominating their respective subzones.. this is one tournaments FIBA Asia should be given to the 2nd class Asian teams
