  • Spanish summer: DISSOLVING TIME!

    Every summer some team dissapear of the Spanish panorama, but this one with the crisis and all that, there will be more than one. At the moment, this is the list:

    Official dissolutions
    CB Granada: two years ago at ACB, relegated to LEB Silver and dissolved after announcing it last december.
    Ros Casares: Euroleague women champion just one month ago. The main sponsor, Ros Casares, was the 90% of the team budget.

    Highway to hell
    Lucentum Alicante: 8th at ACB, huge debts, unpayed public sponsorship... Seems there isn't too much future for them.
    Lleida: weird thing they are going to do. Classic ACB team "CE Lleida Bàsquet" is going to be dissolved and substituted by a new creation team "Força Lleida". Nothing except the name (and legal things) will change.
    Obradoiro: this year they must convert in a SAD (wiki: ("Public limited sports company") like every team (except FCB and RM) who stays two years in a row at ACB. They need 3 million € in August.
    Canarias: promoted to ACB. They are close to resign to promotion because they can't find the 5 million € ACB forces to pay to every new member (3.5M entering quota and 1.5M of promotions and relegations regulatory fund).
    Tarragona: at LEB Gold. If the City Hall don't help them... Bye
    Mallorca: at LEB Gold too. Players stayed practically for free at the island.

    And more and more...
    FIRE THE NEXT ONE!!!

    Something i hardly understund. It's a membership pay or smth? And 2 exceptions because of those clubs's special status?

      The SAD (Sociedad Anónima Deportiva) rule was made in the 90's to control the budget of sports professional teams (1ª and 2ª División in football and ACB in basketball)and to bring some transparency. All clubs except FCB, RM, Athletic Bilbao and Osasuna were converted to this kind of status. This four clubs no, because they had positive benefits in that time.

      SADs work like normal enterprises with stocks and all that shit, but they don't go to stock market. Today, every new team at 2ª División or ACB, must convert to SAD after their first year in the league, if they aren't relegated.

          As I said in 2012–13 thread, Canarias will not promote to ACB because they can't pay the 5 million euros ACB forces to every new member. Sad news for a rising team.

          With this, Estudiantes will avoid their first relegation ever and will play the next season at ACB. This news will be official on next day 15.

                2011–12 LEB Gold teams who officially resign to play at LEBs:

                * Granada (dissolution)
                * Menorca (dissolution)
                * Mallorca (close to the dissolution of the senior team)
                * Tarragona (trying to play 4th level: EBA, amateur league)
                * León (dissolution)
                * Girona (trying to play EBA)
                * Lleida (not competing; a new team created to subtitute them)
                * La Palma (probably dissolving)
