In the last day of Karlovy Vary tournament Turkey beat Hungary 68-65 prevailing just in the final minutes in a very close game.
Hot shooting by Nevin Nevlin for the winners with 22 pts (8/10 FG and 6/6FT).
Box score here.
Australia-Czech Republic 67-48, with a great defense by the Opals that caused the home team commit a lot of errors in attack. But CZ looked just the shadow of the fine 2010 World's championships team.
Tournament ranking: 1) Hungary 2) Australia 3) CZ 4) Turkey.
Katalin Honti of Hungary named MVP.

A rather young team as Yano and Yamada are the only two women who are aged 30 above. Both are 33.
FIBA, Tianjin is a Chinese city, not Japanese city. (Stuff nobody cares about: "Amatsu" is the Japanese pronunciation of the Chinese characters for "Tianjin", and it's not unusual for Chinese people who get naturalized in Japan to adapt their hometown in China as their surname. After all, Japanese surnames are all supposed to be places of their origins. "Nozomi" is the Japanese pronunciation of her given name "Xi".)
This is Japan Women's NT 2nd attempt at recruiting Chinese players in 2 years, after the 1st attempt failed with Risa Kawamura a.k.a. Li Shasha in 2010. Kawamura/Li did well at the team's tour before the 2010 World Championship but later was disqualified by FIBA after it was discovered that she represented China in some competition that I can't remember off the top of my head. Good luck this time. (Edit: Turns out Kawamura represented China as a 19-year-old, of course back then there was no way she could have been called Kawamura, which is a Japanese name. FIBA is funny, but not completely useless, I guess. http://www.fiba.com/pages/eng/fa/pla...men/index.html )Last edited by sinobball; 06-12-2012, 01:53 AM.aim low, score high

In the second leg of the 4-nation tourney in China, NZ lost to China 73-75 (thanks to homecooking refs), revenged the loss against Australia "B" by winning 67-64, and fell to Angola in the last game 64-76. They'll play 2 more games in China against China "B" team on the 17th and 18th before flying to Turkey.
In the 4-nation tourney in Turkey, Turkey beat Argentina 79-75 while Great Britain destroyed Korea 113-86.aim low, score high

In the 4-nation tourney in Turkey, Turkey bested Korea 73-61. African-American-turned-Turkish player Quanitra Hollingsworth, whose name is now spelled Kuanitra Holingsvorth, had 11p+11r. Great Britain defeated Argentina 81-65 and has looked impressive (although inconsistent) in these warmup games.
In the 4-nation tourney in France, the host demolished the previously unbeaten Canada 66-41. The teams will meet in the actual qualifiers again. Meanwhile, Czech Republic beat Croatia 77-66.aim low, score high

Who do you think will qualify, carlo? I think France, host Turkey, Canada, Czech Republic will emerge from the quarterfinals. For the semifinals, Korea will defeat Japan, and Croatia will beat Argentina/New Zealand. So last spot is between Korea and Croatia. Of course I don't know anything, just my guess from looking at the warm-up scores.
