The Atlanta Dream selected an ineligible player in the third round, Isabelle Yacoubou. League rules stipulate that international players can only be drafted in the year in which they turn 20. Yacoubou turns 26 this Saturday. The Dream can still sign her as a free agent.

Some interesting and somewhat surprising 1st round drafts:
              # 7 Kelley Cain (NY Liberty), she retired one year ago from Tennessee as a redshirt junior, "ending her career after multiple surgeries etc", but she resumed playing last season in Turkey. Good luck !
              # 9 Astan Dabo (Conn Suns), 19y 6-8 C from Mali currently playing in France (Reims).
#12 Damiris Dantas do Amaral (Minnesota), 19y 6-4 C from Brazil and playing in Spain. She's the most talented of the three, with plenty of international experience and was the top scorer and MVP at the 2011 U19 World championship.

              Other international draftees:
2nd round: Farhiya Abdi (Sweden, 19y), Nika Baric (Slovenia, 19y). 3rd round: Isabelle Yacoubou (France 6-5, 2012 Euroleague champ).

              NCAA undrafted players (among others):
Da'Shena Stevens (St John's), Cierra Bravard (Florida St), Ashley Corral (USC), Adaora Elonu (Texas A&M), Tavelyn James (E. Michigan).

Does this mean, there should be place for another eligible player in the draft ?

It is a distant possibility that the Atlanta Dream will forfeit their draft pick and renounce rights to the said player. But I doubt Atlanta will renounce their rights to Isabelle. Most likely, the Dream will make training camp invites to another undrafted prospect.

1st Round #9 pick Astan Dabo played with Mali U19 NT at the 2009 World championship, when she was just 17. In one prelim game Mali met USA (losing 100-38) and she played vs six USA team's members drafted this year, #1 Nneka Ogwumike, #5 Shenise Johnson, #6 Samantha Prahalis, #10 Lasondra Barrett, Round 2 #9 Chay Shegog and # 12 C'eira Ricketts. For the record, in that game Dabo scored 2 points and collected 8 rebounds.

Purdue's standout Brittany Rayburn went undrafted. But she has been invited to the training camp of the WNBA Defending Champions, the Minnesota Lynx.

I like what the New York Liberty have done so far. They went big an drafted Tennessee's Kelley Cain, who played in Turkey, this January. Then they signed the veteran DeMya Walker, one of the relics of the defunct Sacramento Monarchs. They also added depth in the back-court with the signing of big guard Kelly Miller.
