The Olympic training team will meet Japan in the EABA final four. They have a chance to avenge last year's defeat in the 2012 Asian Cup. Wang Zhelin has greatly improved ever since.

It looks like Guo Ailun is still questionable for the upcoming games with the Latvian and US selection. As expected, Olympic team looked rusty but Duan Jiangpeng put up a good effort against Canada.

That's a big blow... Knees are a huge issue for big men but Zhelin is still so young to be suffering from such an issue... Unless he's been playing non-stop for the whole year then for that's unfortunate... I hope this is something that just needs like a 1 week rest and not something more serious.

Well I read that Giannakis was released from his French team (Limoges) so I guess that won't interfere much with his coaching the Chinese NT anymore.

Limoges and Panagiotis Giannakis part ways

Limoges CSP Elite (ProA) cut 54-year old Greek coach Panagiotis Giannakis (agency: FCM). He helped them to win the supercup. Giannakis was selected to Greek League All-Star Game back in 2008.
He was coaching Greek Senior National Team between 1996 and 2008.
Giannakis has coached also professionally in Greece (Panionios).

Just curious, I've observed through the years that the numbers 8 & 9 are usually worn by the heavy scorer (except for Yao) of Team China. I remember the likes of Wang Fei, Song Ligang, Gong Lumeng, Hu Weidong, Wu Quinlong. Is this a tradition or unwritten rule in team China. Back in the days, we usually know who the player to watch out for just by looking at the jersey number. But then again, in Asian level everybody is a scoring threat. :P
