I think the question here of analyzed is.can it be done without implications or sanctions by the PBA to the player?

Prove how good he is, then offer his services to the higest bidder, remember pba rookie, sophomore contracts have a max
I think DT is correct. Instead of waiting for 3 years to earn a max contract LUTZ gambled. But still, he'll be a restricted free agent once his contract expires. Still, Petron gets the first crack. Lutz if I am not mistaken was discovered by Eala in one of those tournaments in the US.

Toroman reunites with Eala at San Miguel

February 7, 2012 8:07pm

The country definitely hasn’t seen the last of Rajko Toroman as the Serbian coach, previously at the helm of the Smart Gilas-Pilipinas program, will return as consultant of the San Miguel Corporation (SMC).

Noli Eala, responsible for tapping Toroman’s services as national team coach during his term as Executive Director of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), will be reunited with the Serbian mentor again.

Eala is now the SMC Director of Sports and Special Assistant to the Office of the President.

"Rajko is coming back!," Eala said on his Twitter account. "Toroman and SMC come to terms on a full-time consultancy contract. Welcome to the SMC family."

Eala added the SMC management believes in Toroman's exceptional ability to help the basketball teams and program of the food and beverage giant. "He (Toroman) will be a valuable addition to our talent pool."

The San Miguel official told GMA News Online that Toroman will start working for the company on February 15.

"We will still discuss details of his assignment when he gets here," said Eala. "But in general, he will help our basketball program."

Toroman returned to Manila last week to pick up some personal belongings he left behind when he returned to Serbia shortly after his three-year contract with Smart Gilas-Pilipinas expired last year.

During Toroman's brief visit, he met with Eala where the SMC official reportedly offered the consultancy job to him.

He was also seen sitting a few rows behind the Powerade bench during the PBA Philippine Cup Finals between the Talk "N Text Tropang Texters and the Tigers, watching his former players like Marcio Lassiter and Jvee Casio.

Smart Gilas-Pilipinas came up short on its bid to clinch a berth in this year's London Olympics after finishing fourth in last year's FIBA-Asia Championship For Men in Wuhan, China.

But the Nationals made it to the medal round for the first time in 24 years, losing to Jordan in the semis, 75-61. They also lost the one-game battle for the bronze against South Korea, 70-68, after squandering an 11-point fourth quarter lead.

Despite the decent finish, the SBP decided to let go of Toroman, who in 2008 called the shots for the Iran basketball team that competed in the Beijing Olympics.

"We're grateful for what coach Rajko had done to Philippine basketball, but the thrust of the SBP right now is to allow Filipinos to be at the helm of the national team again,” said Smart Gilas team manager Butch Antonio. — JVP, GMA News

[English or provide translation]

INDEED SOMETHING WRONG IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FIBA QUALIFYING MATCH, IN W/C I OBSERVED NAPAPAUPO NA SI TOROMAN KAHIT NEED OF URGENCY NG RP-TEAM, that is not the usual TOROMAN, we saw that time..RAJKO used to hound his players even if they have a marginal lead because he wanted each and every 5 man on the floor following doing their jobs....

SO TOROMAN will be cOACHING AGAIN..YEHEY..GIVE HIM A YEAR ATLEAST WITH HIS NEW PLAYERS AND NEW TEAM, HE WILL BE RIPE ENOUGH FOR A CHAMPIONSHIP..

in rick's account of his chat with toroman, specifically when toroman was asked about the possibility of being offered a consultancy position with the national team program, i thought toroman replied that "im a coach, not a consultant"?

did he change his mind? what about the offers to coach in europe? where there really concrete offers? and if there were, why did he choose a consultancy job in a pba team?

did eala just gave an offer that he can't refuse? or it was more of the limited opportunity outside of the philippines?

in the same interview with rick, toroman was quoted having said "there is no offer". and since there was no mention of him being offered a consultancy job for the national team/new gilas program, and in light of his acceptance of the offer of full-time consultancy in smb, it is my assumption that he was not offered anything, not even consultancy by sbp and mvp (at least not before the smb thing).

uuumm..smb vs smart, mvp vs don ramon just got hotter.

Re: Toroman signing.

i never saw that coming. That was close to impossible.

(/sarcasm. Weeks even months ago Gilas superfans were still in denial that their favorite coach wasn't coming back. He did come back.. Just not in MVP's camp. Much to the dismay of the superfans)

Anyway, Lassiter to SMC. Next target: Casio.

Gilas 1 was about TNT + Gilas.
Gilas 2 will be a transition period as MVP puts it all in trusting Chot Reyes.

SMB National Team is coming soon as Noli Eala slowly but surely finds and acquires the pieces.
The signs are there:
Fajardo with SMB in the ABL
Parks Sr with SMC
Banchero with SMB

Combine this with whatever SMC (BMEG, PETRON and GIN and possibly POW) has at that point, you'd have the reincarnation of Eala's brainchild: Gilas.

A major war is brewing between you-know-who/what. When the shit hits the fan , i hope we all survive it and find unity as fans one way or the other.
If there is no basketball in heaven, i am NOT going.
