      • The Malaysian Basketball Association lists a 9th SEABA Champions Cup, which will be held on APRIL 1 – 3, in Chiang Mai City, Thailand, as Qualifying (event) for 23rd FIBA Asia Champions Cup (which will be held in October). If this is official: Will this be open to all SEA pro teams and not just to ABL clubs?

            • Warriors Strengthen Squad With New Local Players

e Indonesia Warriors strengthened their squad for the upcoming playoffs this week with the inclusion of two local players, Arki Dikania Wisnu and Christian Ronaldo Sitepu.

According to the league’s rules under “Entries”, while the transfer deadline for their imports is before the teams play their 16th game of the season, teams who have registered only seven to nine local players in their 16-man roster for the season will be allowed to register a maximum of two additional local players before the last game of the regular season which, in the Warriors case, is this Sunday’s match against the JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Both Arki and Dodo (Sitepu) are familiar faces in the Indonesian basketball scene as they both are both part of the NBL Indonesia Satria Muda team which has recently won the championship. Arki averaged 13.8 points per game in the NBL season and won two awards, Rookie of The Year and Sixth Man of the Year. The 6'2'' guard also has experience playing in The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) division III with Baruch College.

Dodo is a promising young player and has the biggest upside of any players in Indonesia. The 6’8’’ forward can help Warriors in rebounding the ball and he’s also a great defender. Dodo is part of the Indonesia National Team in the 2011 South East Asian Game. Dodo had a break-out performance in the 26th FIBA Asia Championship at Wuhan, China, where he was the leading scorer of the Indonesia National team with 14 points per game.

“Dodo will provide defense and rebounding, Arki gives us shooting and additional ball handling” Said Warriors' Head Coach Todd Purves.

Their inclusion in the squad will be a major lift to the Warriors, who will have to face either the San Miguel Beermen or the AirAsia Philippine Patriots in the playoffs.

                • if ever indonesia warriors and san miguel beermen makes it to the finals.
Both of them would earn the ticket to the FIBA Asia Champions cup.
But IW would lose their pinoy imports salansang, canada and Pringle.
Is it possible for San Miguel to recruit Pringle and other fil-fors that were supposed to be with SMB had ABL not enforced the new rules(or other pinoys) into SMB's roster for the champion's cup? or should the line up be still the same? the rule before is not strict, are there no new rules since champions cup is now different?
I strongly believe they will be destroyed in the Champions cup if they wont upgrade their line up.

Its possible actually but im not sure if they're bound by contract even after the ABL season & playoffs ends. Look at the top clubs at Lebanon, they actually added Fadi El-Khatib on their line-up even if he's not part of that club in their domestic league when its Fiba Asia Champions cup.

Patriots Ardy Larong Receives 2-Game Suspension for Unsportsmanlike Behavior

30 May 2012, Jakarta, Indonesia – The AirAsia ASEAN Basketball League today announced that a notification of suspension for Ardy Larong has been sent to the AirAsia Philippine Patriots following an incident during the Patriots’ firs game in their playoff series against the Indonesia Warriors last Sunday.

Video evidence and official reports from the game has been carefully reviewed by the ABL and it was concluded that Larong’s attempted head butt on Warriors Stanley Pringle in the fourth quarter is a clear violation of the ABL Rules & Regulations clause on Unsportsmanlike Acts.

This incident is also Larong’s third offense of the season, which has resulted in a stiffer penalty and as such he will be suspended for the Patriots’ next two games, beginning with this weekend’s matchup which is game two of the Patriots’ playoff series against the Warriors. On top of the ABL’s penalty, FIBA Asia will also be notified on the matter which may result in further action.

Following a clause within the ABL Rules & Regulations, the AirAsia Philippine Patriots will be allowed to make an appeal regarding the fines above within 24 hours of the time the notification was sent.

AirAsia ABL Announces Nominees for Season 3 Player Awards

                          Awards Nominees

The AirAsia ASEAN Basketball League has just announced the nominees for this season’s MVP awards, the winners of which will be announced in the first week of June after which the awards will be presented during the ABL’s Championship Dinner scheduled for July 2012.

Over the past seasons, Most Valuable Player awards have been given out in the categories of regular season import, regular season local player and best player during the playoffs/finals. This season however, two new categories have been added for the Regular Season Defensive Player of the year and the Regular Season Coach of the Year.

The MVP nominees are selected based on their performance throughout the regular season by their stats and total efficiency ratings. Their overall conduct in their games is also put into consideration. Candidates are also required to have participated in at least 16 games within the regular season.

Best Defensive Player of the Year nominees are, of course, determined by their individual average rebounds, blocks, steals and how many points on average are scored against them.

The winners will be determined via peer voting where each team’s Head Coach will be given one vote for each category. The votes will then be tallied and the nominee with the most votes will receive the award.

                          This year’s award nominees are:-

                          Regular Season Import player MVP

                          - Anthony Johnson – AirAsia Philippine Patriots

                          - Tiras Wade – Westports Malaysia Dragons

                          - Jonathan Jones – Saigon Heat

                          Regular Season Local player MVP

                          - Leonez Avenido – San Miguel Beermen

                          - Mario Wuysang – Indonesia Warriors

                          - Al Vergara – AirAsia Philippine Patriots

Regular Season Defensive Player of the Year:

                          - Steven Thomas – Indonesia Warriors

                          - Nakiea Miller – AirAsia Philippine Patriots

                          - Louis Graham – Jobstreet.com Singapore Slingers

Last year’s winners include this year’s nominee for the Regular Season Defensive Player of the Year Nakiea Miller, who won the Regular Season’s Best Import award for his role with the Dragons as well as Mario Wuysang, last year’s winner who is once again nominated for Regular Season Local Player MVP. The Slammers’ Attaporn Leitmalaiporn, who is currently still the only player in the ABL who has two awards under his belt (ABL League MVP in Season 1 and ABL Playoffs MVP in Season 2), misses out in this season’s nominations.

                            • Malaysia Dragons force Beermen to deciding Game Three in ABL semis series
                              Art Requiron, InterAKTV · Saturday, June 2, 2012 · 6:38 pm

The Westports Malaysia Dragons extended their semifinal series to a deciding Game 3 when they defeated the San Miguel Beermen, 100-77, Saturday in the ASEAN Basketball League at the MABA Stadium in Kuala Lumpur.

The Beermen fell after the Dragons closed the game with a 26-7 blast to force a rubber match on June 9 at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

Filipino Patrick Cabahug helped Tiras Wade and Brian Williams on the offensive end to boost the Dragons’ fourth quarter assault to tie the series. Cahabug had 17 points on three-of-six shooting and his buzzer beating trey in the third quarter sparked the Dragons as they entered the fourth with a 72-66 lead.

Wade and Williams scored 34 and 26 points respectively and dominated the fourth as they lead the charge in that pivotal run.

Duke Crews led the Beermen in scoring with 15 points while Chris Banchero added 13.

Meanwhile, the AirAsia Philippine Patriots attempt to extend their own semifinal affair with the Indonesia Warriors when they clash Sunday at the Mahaka Square in Jakarta.

The Patriots are missing a key piece to their team with Ardy Larong being slapped with a two-game suspension by the league.

Larong was suspended after he was caught headbutting Indonesia Warriors’ Stanley Pringle in the fourth quarter of Game 1 during a video review of the match.

With their backs against the wall, Patriots coach Glenn Capacio hopes to regain homecourt advantage in Game 2.

“For us to get back in the series, we just have to be mentally and physically tough especially that we’ll be playing in Jakarta,” Capacio said.
