  • Blakely will return as San Mig Coffee import

Cone told Solar Sports Desk that they have decided to call back the high-flying Blakely to once more help the team’s cause.

“He’s coming back. He’s arriving in July. We went to the finals with him (so we decided to again give him a call),” said the grand slam coach.

“We went to a game 7 championship with him. We just fell short because he fouled out early in the fourth quarter, so we want to give him another opportunity,” added Cone.

In his 2012 third conference campaign with the then BMEG Llamados, the 6-5, 220-lb forward registered impressive numbers of 22.36 points, 13.36 rebounds, 3.27 assists, 2.73 steals and 2.55 blocks per game.

Unfortunately, the Mixers lost the crown to the Jamelle Cornley-led Rain or Shine Elastopainters, 4 games to 3.

“He is a guy who brings chemistry to the team. We liked him. He has great work ethic. We’re looking forward to bring him back,” said Cone, whose team suffered a disappointing title defense in the ongoing Commissioner’s cup, losing to the Alaska Aces in the semis.

Blakely is expected to arrive in the country sometime in July.

Aside from San Mig, other teams which already announced the names of their imports are Barangay Ginebra San Miguel (Dior Lowhorn) and Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters (Tony Mitchell).

Cornley will not be given a chance to defend his best import plum as management of Rain or Shine already decided to part ways with the wide-bodied wingman after a brush with the law last March.

Petron is said to be eyeing former Rain or Shine reinforcement Arizona Reid, though team sources say there are also a number of prospects on the list.

Just trade both Arwind/Jwash to sister teams(GSM/Mixers) for 1st round pick for the upcoming draft!

A couple of points as to why it would not be Arwind:

1.) SMC has always made good on its promises to its players, even to the point of spoiling them. Furthermore, Arwind has been the recipient of incentives from SMC even before he was playing for the organization, so no reason for him to be left out this time.

2.) He has not been involved in any trade rumor recently nor in the past four years.

          It most likely is Japeth...

Could be excused. "David" is a surname usually associated with Pampanga.

                    • Who's going where: Balik imports, exciting finds lead Governors Cup cast
                      By Snow Badua
                      May 21, 2013, 05:26 pm

TWO former Best Import awardees and potentially exciting finds are set to come in for the season-ending PBA Governors Cup beginning on August 14.

At least six former imports are being eyed for another tour of duty, including former Rain of Shine reinforcements Arizona Reid and Jamelle Cornley who are on the radar of Petron and Globalport, respectively.

There are also new faces including Alaska Aces prospect Wendell McKines, who has earned a reputation as an electrifying scorer who plays like a bigger version of Calvin Abueva.

Reid, the 2011 Governors’ Cup best import, is being considered by Petron while last year’s awardee Cornley has been linked to Globalport.

“Cornley was offered to us. We’re still evaluating. But we’re not in deep negotiations with Jamelle. He was just offered to us. Nothing is final yet,” said Baculi who revealed he still has a long list of other prospects.

A source from Petron disclosed that the coaching staff will decide on import choice as soon as coach Olsen Racela returns from the US next week, but indicated that Reid is high on the list that also included DJ Kennedy, Jimmy Baxter, John Milsap and Bobby Jones.

Air21 Express is bringing back the prolific Zach Graham, while the San Mig Coffee Mixers will again ride on the shoulders of last year’s reinforcement Marqus Blakely.

The Talk n’ Text Tropang Texters will parade NBA D-League Rookie of the Year Tony Mitchell, who played in the last three games of the last Commissioner’s cup semis as a late replacement for Jerome Jordan.

Barangay Ginebra is said to have already agreed in principle with former ABL top scorer Dior Lowhorn, but a source informed Spin.ph that former Houston Rocket Mike Harris is also being considered.

Former Rio Grande Viper Michael Singletary has led Barako Bull to first place in Group B in the ongoing 2nd Al Shabab international basketball tournament in Dubai, and will most likely be tapped for the season-ending tournament by the George Chua franchise.

So far only Rain or Shine, which has also reportedly sent an offer sheet to Reid, and Meralco Bolts, reportedly trying to bring back Mario West, are still without import.

Here’s a quick rundown of the possible imports for the Governors Cup.

1 Alaska Aces – Wendell McKines (confirmed)

                      2. Barangay Ginebra Kings – Dior Lowhorn

                      3. San Mig Coffee Mixers – Marqus Blakely (confirmed)

                      4. Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters – Tony Mitchell (confirmed)

                      5. Rain or Shine – negotiating with Arizona Reid

                      6. Petron Blaze Boosters – negotiating with Arizona Reid

                      7. Barako Bull Energy Cola – Michael Singletary

                      8. Meralco Bolts – Mario West

                      9. Air21 Express – Zach Graham (confirmed)

                      10. Globalport Batang Pier – still evaluating list
