Speaking of Covington.... he absolutely killed it tonight. A swagger-filled, effortless 29 points while impacting the game on both ends both down low and on the perimeter.

No Richaun Holmes and no point guard defense or true point guard is killing us right now. It could be another long season if Fultz doesn't become a tough defender at the point.

Sixers get their first win of the season against a strong Detroit team thanks largely to the play of Joel Embiid and Robert Covington though others came up big as well. Markelle Fultz for one played very tough defense at a crucial point in the game that helped the Sixers maintain and even build upon their lead. Great team win.

What's the overall impression on Fultz?
He was the first pick afterall, haven't seen other than highlights yet, but compared to Simmons and Embiid for example, stats are definately underwhelming.

He's a natural born scorer but everything else is a work in progress. To be expected with a kid like him.

Don't be fooled by Simmons' stats. He has not played well and has gotten worse as far as knowing when to pass and where to be when he makes a pass with each passing game.

Good win tonight for the Sixers.... Avenging that Eric Gordon trey by winning in the Rockets' turf. Guys like Covington, Simmons and Luwawu-Cabarrot are taking away the dribble space by Rockets. Given the Sixers' wingspan, Rockets found it hard to time their trey outlet passes.

TLC is my pick for this year's breakout player. He's a star in the making.

Everybody looked comfortable early on in this game, and Embiid looked like a whole other superstar level player due to being comfortable thanks to finally getting the ball in the post. Losing that security blanket of JJ Reddick has forced guys to step up.

Covington was the hero with a hyper-efficient career high 31 points -including a clutch three to give the team the lead and four clutch free throws for the Sixers' final seven points of the game- and Embiid had a dominant 32 and 16 to power the Sixers to the win over the Clippers. Ben looked great at times, and even the guys who struggled scoring came up big at times.
