Saw the Westport dragons game against Saigon, the game is pretty entertaining minus the exaggeration and mistake of the commentators. With Ronald Capati now playing for the Vietnam team i believe that all ABL teams now have filipino player in their respective line-ups. Ken Bono might consider playing in the ABL.

The Asian import-spot could be basically any Asian? Why do they take small Pinoy when they may have taller guys from lets say one of the 'stans or West Asia? Wages must be small or what's the reason for only one (The Cambodian for Saigon) other Asian but from the 'Pines?

The ABL teams may hire up to three ASEAN imports so it is limited to the countries in Southeast Asia.

In the three seasons of the ABL, the ASEAN import spots were always filled by Filipinos except Malaysian Marcus Ng of the Singapore Slingers in 2009-2010 and Cambodian Sophoeun Ouen of the Saigon Heat this season.

Because pound for pound we are the best in Asia.

By pound for pound, i mean you can get us cheap for a pretty serviceable player (Note that most of the Filipino players playing in the ABL are either scrubs from the PBA, over-the-hill vets from the PBA or minor leagues or up and comers and/or projects who does not command a bigger salary-- yet for some-- in the big leagues)
If there is no basketball in heaven, i am NOT going.

The Asian Basketball, often abbreviated to the ABL, is a men's professional basketball league in Southeast Asia, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

"The AirAsia ASEAN Basketball League is the region’s first professional league of any sport and was established to work in tandem with each country’s respective national associations to grow and develop basketball in South East Asia.
Competition level is very high in the league, with each team being allowed 3 ASEAN imports and 2 international imports into their squad each season to allow a more even playing field between the countries. On top of that, the AirAsia ABL Champions will also go on to represent South East Asia in the FIBA Asia Championship for that year.
What makes the AirAsia ABL unique is that each team is privately owned by business leaders or investors who are fully responsible for their own P&L. Also, as part of the league’s main goal, each team is encouraged to maintain their own youth development programs to enable the sport’s growth at a grassroots level in each country."

OT: Having said that pound for pound (maybe you mean in terms of number of decent professional players produced per unit of population) that PHL is best in Asia (or ASEAN at least) I think that the ASEAN slot for the FIBA Asia champions cup must be decided by a play-off between the ABL Champion and the current PBA conference champion (or at least the team which won the most elimination round games)...

What's the nationality of Saigon Heat's John Smith? Is he a mix blood?

Their American imports are Jonathan Jones and Jamar Thorpe. Smith must be a local.

The ABL champion is probably at the same level as to that of Ateneo or San Beda. Your suggestion is laughable to say the least.

Haha the Philippine Patriots and the San Miguel Beermen might have something to say about that.

The suggestion is laughable at the least if a non-Filipino team wins the ABL championship, but then FIBA has reserved the SEA slot in the Champions Cup for the ABL champion so isn't it unfair for SEA to be represented by a supposedly collegiate-level team? A playoff between the PBA & the ABL champions will ensure that the SEA representative to the Champions Cup is the most competitive team available. Of course it won't happen though. Pinoy basketball fans have looked at their Asian neighbors condescendingly for years - only to wake up one day that the old wimps have become title contenders hehehe.

i have no doubts that the quality of basketball will improve. By 2050 maybe?

Come on now, how many games will say the Philippine Patriots win over Air 21, practically the worst team in the league, in 10 games? (The college team Ateneo San Beda was an exaggeration, maybe it's a toss up considering there are 2 imports)
