Shimane is barely hanging on to the sixth place in the West. They face a very deadly Kyoto Hannaryz team lead by Lance Allred. Shimane needs their A game from everyone to pull off a rare sweep.

That was a most enjoyable series. Truly, Aishin, Hitachi and Toyota are the teams one would choose for the JBL Championship.

                              • I haven't been watching Hitachi's games, but a replay against the Mitsubishi Diamond Dolphins I saw an aggressive Joji Takeuchi in defense. He challenges shots even from the outside, though many would prefer him in the shaded lane to defend the post from challengers.

I have seen defensive lapses that leaves Takeuchi in the perimeter on which is a defensive mismatch. In Joji-kun's early career, he would be always caught flat footed right out in the perimeter where he had the tendency to freeze and watch a guard or a forward shoot an uncontested jumpshot.

This season, Joji has been aggressive both inside and outside. I think he finally understands his value to his team aside from his shooting and rebounding. He can be a factor in the defense as well. With his height, he can alter or even manage a block.

This too has a small strategic effect on the usual defensive blanks that opposing teams likes to pull against Hitachi. Have a forward or a guard exploit that mismatch with Takeuchi for an easy shot up front (though they should be driving instead). Back then, Joji had the tendency to stare or fall for a fake. This season, when he's challenging jumpshots with gusto and timing, that shot is rendered as a low percentage in regards to Joji's height.
