                • The Aishin SeaHorses currently lead the JBL with a 27-9 record. Second place are the Toyota Alvark with a 24-12 record. Last year, prior to the March 11 disaster in Sendai that had cancelled the 2010-2011 season, Aishin was leading the league at that time.

                          • Fumio Nishimura (Hitachi SunRockerz) has been playing well as of late. Nishimura is key factor and a big spark in Hitachi's back-court that can be attributed to the success of the team as of late.

Nishimura admitted that his stint with the Japanese national team has helped him quite a lot. As for me, I like his bowly haircut.

                            Nishimura fires up Hitachi

Fumio Nishimura helped the Hitachi Sunrockers outshine the Aisin Sea Horses yet again.

Hitachi knocked off the japan basketball League's front-running team 66-61 on Saturday at Tokyo's Sumida Ward Gym, giving the Sunrockers their fourth win over the Sea Horses in their five meetings this season.

Nishimura scored a game-high 20 points and dished out five assists as Hitachi improved to 22-15 and inched closer to a playoff spot with a top-four finish in the eight-team league.

The third-place Sunrockers have held the Sea Horses, who fell to 27-10, to fewer than 70 points in all five head-to-head games.

"It looks like this year they don't really know how to figure us out," said Hitachi reserve center/forward Chris Maraker, who had 10 points and 11 rebounds.

"We've got their number, so we've just got to keep taking advantage of it."

Hitachi hassled Aisin center J.R. Sakuragi enough to hold him to just 11 points, seven below his average.

"We got a lot of help from the guards," Maraker said. "He's so crafty down low so you need to make him pass the ball, and we've done a good job doing that [all season]."

Said Hitachi coach Shuji Ono: "When you play Aisin, J.R. is the focus and that means we have to play good team defense on him. If you let him score easily, then we have to crowd him inside, and that leaves guys open on the perimeter and they kick it out for open shots. That happened on a few occasions today, but not that many.

"The biggest thing is that we kept up with them on the boards," said Ono, whose team equaled Aisin's 42 rebounds.

Nishimura got the start at point guard because regular Hidenori Kashiwakura is out with a sore oblique and had 12 points by halftime.

The Sunrockers closed the first quarter on a 13-0 run--Nishimura scoring nine points during that stretch--to grab a 21-13 lead.

"I just wanted to go out and play hard. We had to concentrate and play at a high level the entire 40 minutes, and we were able to do that," Nishimura said.

                            "I'm pretty tired, though."

The Sunrockers, who play Aisin again here today at 3 p.m., have the second-place Toyota Alvark and the seventh-place Mitsubishi Melco Diamond Dolphins remaining on their schedule.

"We can get into the playoffs for sure if we have 24 wins," Ono said. "But it this was a big win for us. We just have to focus on our next game."

Daisuke Kobayashi chipped in with 12 points and four assists, and Joji Takeuchi added 11 rebounds for Hitachi.

Sakuragi was only Aisin player to score in double figures and he pulled down 13 rebounds.

Elsewhere, the Alvark had little trouble with the Diamond Dolphins, winning 98-67.

Fifth-place Hokkaido Levanga topped Link Tochigi Brex 78-71, and the fourth-place Panasonic Trians downed the last-place Toshiba Brave Thunders 73-71.

                              • This could be the biggest scandal in the BJ-League.

Evessa's Washington arrested in drug case

Perhaps the best import / player in the BJ-League and also its ambassador has been nabbed. It could warrant a ban from from the league.
