        Drummond a good kid

Andre Drummond, despite his lofty status as the Nation's Number One on the 2012 recruiting class, still remains his fresh man attitude.

Drummond playing a support role for St. Thomas More

There’s no official tally of these things, but it’s probably pretty safe to say that St. Thomas More is the only high school boy’s lacrosse team with a possible future NBA player as its team manager.

Six-foot-ten-inch St. Thomas More basketball standout Andre Drummond, the No. 1 rated player in the Class of 2012 by Rivals.com, certainly makes an imposing figure on the sideline.

“He’s a great guy to have around, a great personality on the sideline,” St, Thomas More coach Travis Modic said after his Chancellors downed Marianapolis, 14-6, on Wednesday afternoon.

Modic said Drummond also makes for a nice distraction when other teams come in. Suddenly, those teams aren’t interested in their opponents, just the big guy on the sideline. Modic said you always hear the whispers. “Is that Andre Drummond?” is the most common question, according to the St. Thomas More coach.

Despite his lofty status, Drummond’s duties are like that of most managers; bring the team water during time outs (although he sometimes throws the bottles from the sideline), help with equipment and clean up the field after the game.

Drummond has still not declared where he will go to school following his post-graduate year at St. Thomas More. He probably won’t even start his official visits until this summer and there are plenty of suitors drooling over the big guy including UConn and most of the other big-name college basketball powers.

ESPN's Adidas Invitational Recap on Andre Drummond

              Andre Drummond
              2012, C, 6-10, 270 pounds
His physique compares to an NBA power forward right now. He uses his large, long and powerful body on the defensive end to challenge, change and protect the rim. When he goes to the glass, he is the type of player who not only gets rebounds, he takes them away from others. He is at his best offensively when he receives a pass at the elbow or mid-post area with his back to the basket and then faces up his opponents. This gives him more room to score or pass which he does very well. However, when he gets too deep on the block he often contends with two and sometimes three defenders, which shrinks his space to move and score. His free throw shooting is a work in progress, but you can see improvement. Kentucky, UConn, Duke, Kansas, Louisville, Georgetown, are in the mix with many other elite programs.

Hey CKR, have you heard anything more about the rumor that Drummond will complete his high school courses early and make himself eligible for next year's draft, being that he will be 19 by that time?

Aside from discussions from forums, I can't find any credible source. But Courier Journal has an interesting perspective on anticipating Drummond.

What makes him special is he can pass and dribble the basketball at that height. But we have seen a lot of tall and athletic American centers these years, but they usually just turn out so-so (if not bad). I have always believed that the NCAA is a horrible place to develop skills for centers and Yao Ming who ranked #20 among centers in 1998 All-American Camp would have never made it big (or at all) in the NBA if he went to the NCAA -- he had an offer from University of Houston that summer.

Andre Drummond participated in the recent Super 16 Showcase. ESPN's recap.

                      Andre Drummond
                      (Middletown, Conn./St. Thomas More)
                      2012, C, 6-10
When he's determined to dominate the paint there is simply no stopping him, as was the case on Wednesday. Playing in front of an enthusiastic hometown crowd, Drummond looked to finish with authority every time he caught the ball within six feet of the rim, and he was equally dominant inside the paint on the defensive end with his shot-blocking prowess. He continues to prove he has the ability to take the ball off the defensive glass and start the break and in general played a highly efficient and fairly inspired inside-out game.

Drummond is still unsure of what to do at this point. Most importantly, not committed to a college school.

Good read from AOL-SN about his potential options on his future.
