      • Terrence Williams debuted in crunch time for the past games and seems to be blending well off and on the court. Williams could be signed for the rest of the season I hope.

Kings notes: Williams already is making an impact

HOUSTON – Terrence Williams said facing his old team provided no extra motivation.

But his performance against the Houston Rockets probably will earn him more playing time with the Kings.

Williams, a 6-foot-6 small forward, came off the bench in the third quarter and played 16 minutes in Sacramento's 113-106 overtime loss Monday night.

The Rockets waived the seldom-used Williams on March 16, and the Kings signed him to a 10-day contract Wednesday. In both of his appearances with Sacramento, he has been on the court at crunch time.

"I don't care where we were playing (Monday)," Williams said. "I wasn't going to let the last game happen again. I just tried to be focused and be ready to play basketball."

Williams committed a turnover with 15.6 seconds left in the Kings' 111-108 loss at Golden State on Saturday. On Monday, he had 10 points, three rebounds and two steals.

Coach Keith Smart said Williams is "moving up the charts" and earning the right to play earlier in games.

"He's playing well. He's playing within himself," Smart said. "He's shown he can make some plays and be a playmaker defensively, so he's moving at the right pace for our basketball team."

Williams likely will stay for the rest of the season.

"There's some things he can do that no one on our team can do," Smart said. "So we've just got to keep getting him familiar with what we do all the way around."

Williams said regardless of when Smart uses him, he'll be ready.

"At the end of the day, I'm a basketball player," Williams said. "I'm not studying for an exam. Whatever he needs me to do. If he wants to play me in the fourth quarter, that's showing he has a lot of trust in me."

Still out – Forward Jason Thompson missed his second consecutive game because of a sprained left ankle suffered in the final seconds of the Kings' loss to Utah on Thursday.

Thompson practiced Sunday when the Kings arrived in Houston. He also went through a pregame workout but was held out.

In his last five games, Thompson has averaged 17.6 points and 13.6 rebounds. Donté Greene started in his place for the second game in a row.

                      • Up next for the Sacramento Kings are the visiting New Jersey Nets. The Nets will see a much improved Demarcus Cousins who has been averaging 28.0 points and 15.0 rebounds for the past five games.

Last season, the Nets had two games with the Kings in the early 2010-2011 season. Cousins averaged 10.0 points on 31.3 percent shooting, though he did post 7.0 rebounds per game.

This time around, Cousins is much improved and could be the difference maker for the game.

                        • This is the one and only match-up of the two teams this season. Both teams have 18 wins, but New Jersey has three more losses than we do (they have 35, we have 32). Pretty even teams, although we have recently improved quite a lot. In our latest four game on the schedule (not including the game against the Jazz), we have lost all four but have been close and competed in every single game. Great signs from a rebuilding team. And we have beaten some very good teams this year (including the Thunder, Lakers, Mavericks, Celtics, etc.). Plus Demarcus has flourished. Add it all together and we have a great, great, great future which could lead to some play-off appearances just like we saw in the early 2000's.

                              • He really proved himself during the 10-day trial and I really liked him. Solid defender and just has nice potential. The only reason the Nets and Rockets let him go in the first place was because of attitude. He hasn't had any problems with us so far, so we will gladly take a former lottery pick. Plus we needed some more depth (and even talent, to an extent) at that forward spot and Terrence provides that. And also, Demarcus Cousins has shown we can fix bad attitudes and turn them into great players. I really hope it is the same case with Williams, or T-Will (no, not J-Will ; J-Will is too exciting). He should be another great, young piece to our rebuilding franchise.

As for the game against New Jersey, I can say I am fairly disappointed with the result. The game last night was yet another example of us playing to the level of our opponents. We were blown out on our home floor by another subpar team ; it was the first time in a while that we didn't have a big chance to win throughout the whole game. Anyways, we play the Minnesota Timberwolves again. It is at 7:00 p.m. (pacific time) tomorrow. Maybe we can beat them at home again, like we did a couple of weeks ago.
