  • 2016 2nd Asia Basketball Club Championship [Seoul, South Korea, 10/1-10/3]

    2nd (2016) Asia Basketball Club Championship: 10/1 - 10/3

    KCC Egis
    Ulsan Mobis Phoebus
    Sichuan Blue Whales
    Wellington Saints of New Zealand

Ironic that the reigning CBA champs, Sichuan will play in an obscure club championship and chose to shun the FIBA Asia Club Championship where Xinjiang will play instead.

Yang Dong-Geun in vintage form and leading the uptempo attack of Ulsan vs NZ Wellington Saints. Ulsan up big 43-24.

Nothing ironic, Xinjiang is better than Sichuan. Sichuan won last year because they had 3 borderline NBA talent versus 2 for most other teams. Take away Dentmon and I don't think they will even make the playoffs this year, and now they don't even have Haddadi so I'm quite surprised they kept the games so close. Sichuan has no "A" or "B" NT players and no Taiwanese players, but they do have 36-year-old Liu Wei.

Before they arrived in Korea they played an exhibition game at home against CSKA Moscow and lost by ~50 points (and Teodosic didn't even play). Shows how terrible Asian basketball is that they are competitive in this tournament. If Haddadi was here they definitely would win this tournament.

This year, Xinjiang is better but last year's Sichuan had its time and pretty much demolished competition that had NT players. Sichuan only having Meng Da or Zhang Chunjun show up in some games, did not really matter as the trio of Harris, Haddadi and Dentmon got it done. Was rooting for Liaoning BTW as Sichuan winning the CBA title with foreignerd doing much of the work is not good for the image of the league.
