There are no reports concerning the names of imports who's going to play for the next conference in the PBA. however there were reports that Red Bull is eyeing the services of 2 time NBA MVP and now retired the Mailman Karl Malone but nothing is definite yet. An import who's services was tapped by ML Kwarta Padala in Cebu to beefed their roster when they collided with BGK in an exhibition game yesterday was supposedly came to town to tryout for a team in the PBA.

TNT gets Oklahoma U cage star
      By WAYLON GALVEZ

Talk ’N Text, last year’s runner-up in the Fiesta Cup, is bringing in a new import in Aaron DeShon McGhee.

The Phone Pals acquired the services of McGhee, who is listed as a 6-foot-8, 250-pound power forward and starred for the Oklahoma University Sooners that reached the 2002 US NCAA Final Four.

The 28-year-old McGhee, born in Aurora, Illinois, arrived Sunday night.

With his size and heft, Talk ’N Text hopes he can add muscle to the frontline that include 6-foot-3 Ali Peek, 6-foot-4 Harvey Carey, 6-foot-7 Don Allado and 6-foot-9 Yancy De Ocampo.

"He’s a strong player and athletic for his size," Allado, impressed by McGhee in his first practice with the team yesterday, said. "He also plays solid defense. I think he can really help us next conference."

Newly-appointed Talk ’N Text mentor Chot Reyes will arrive this week from the USA where he scouted other prospects before settling for McGhee, who last played in a Puerto Rican league.

"He’s a very skilled player with tons of experience playing overseas. He played in Korea, China and Puerto Rico to name a few," TNT team manager Frankie Lim said.

As a senior at Oklahoma, McGhee averaged 16 points and 7.7 rebounds per game, including 21.8 points and 7.2 rebounds in five NCAA Tournament games that propelled the Sooners to the Final Four.

After his stellar college career, McGhee joined the NBA Rookie Draft in 2002 but was not selected.

The Pals, with import J.J. Sullinger, lost in a seven-game showdown with the Alaska Aces in last season’s Fiesta Cup.

Barangay Ginebra, on the other hand, has trimmed down its options to three prospects, according to coach Jong Uichico, who refused to reveal the names of the Kings’ possible import.

"We have not closed a deal on anyone yet," Uichico said.

Aaron Mcghee indeed have a great basketballl resume, and i predict that he would be one of the most outstanding import this conference.

I think he might be the one replacing Asi Taulava in the TNT Rotation after they traded the 6'8 Fil-Tongan to the Coca Cola Tigers Last Conference, and Yancy De Ocampo is too soft to play the Center spot for his team because he is more of a PF like his teammate Jay Washington.

        Aaron Mcghee Physical Measurement

        Height w/out Shoes: 6'7"
        Ht. w/ shoes: 6'8"
        Weight: 255
        Wingspan: 6-10
        Standing Reach: 8-9 1/2

            Air21 taps CBA’s No. 1 rebounder
            By Joaquin Henson
            Sunday, March 2, 2008

Air21 will be beefed up by 6-9, 245-pound Steve Thomas in the PBA Fiesta Conference starting March 30 and from early indications, the Continental Basketball Association’s leading rebounder could be just the inside presence the Express sorely needs to back up high-flying wingmen Arwind Santos, Nino Canaleta and Ranidel de Ocampo.

Pennsylvania-based player recruiter Sam Unera told The Star yesterday in an overseas phone call from his Allentown office he personally chose Thomas for the Express and guaranteed the burly center will be an improved version of Shawn Daniels who was Air21’s import the last two seasons.

Thomas is expected to fly in by the middle of next month when the CBA ends. He is averaging 13.7 points and 10.8 rebounds for the East Kentucky Miners. What’s remarkable is Thomas’ 62.4 percent shooting from the field. He’s also hitting 70.5 percent from the line. In statistical standings, the Georgia native is No. 1 in rebounding, No. 3 in field goal percentage and No. 3 in blocked shots (1.7). Thomas started the season with the Atlanta Krunk then moved to the American Conference rival club.

“Thomas was a very productive player for Atlanta, averaging a double-double for a talented team,” said Miners coach Kevin Keathley. “We’re looking for him to bring a bigger interior presence on a more consistent basis. He’s an individual we hope will play big on the inside.”

So far, Thomas has given Keathley no regrets. He scored 34 points and grabbed 17 rebounds in the Miners’ recent 131-117 win over Pittsburgh. Thomas also hit 19 points and took 15 rebounds in a 129-112 decision over Albany last week.

In the previous Fiesta Conference, Air21 finished sixth. The Express failed to make it to the quarterfinals in the Philippine Cup this season, posting an 8-12 record. Coach Bo Perasol’s team will be boosted by the return of Gary David who played in only the Express’ last four games this conference after recovering from an ACL injury.

Thomas played three years for the University of Georgia then sat out the 2003-04 season to gain eligibility at Middle Tennessee State.

In 2002, Thomas was accused of rape with varsity athletes Tony Cole and Brandon Williams but they were never indicted. He emerged from the incident more determined to make his mark as a player. As a senior in 2004-05, he averaged 10.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 24 minutes, shooting 48.5 percent from the floor and 70.8 percent from the stripe in 24 games.

Thomas was an All-Star in the Polish league as an import before signing up in the CBA this season.

Unera said he is recommending Thomas’ East Kentucky teammate Mike Dean, a deadshot point guard, as the small import for either Welcoat or Coca-Cola. The Dragons and Tigers are the only teams allowed to play two imports because they finished at the bottom of the recent Philippine Cup eliminations. One import will be of unlimited height while the other has a limit of 6-1.

Dean is listed 6-3 but Unera said it’s exaggerated and he should be within the 6-1 ceiling. Dean is averaging 20.5 points with a 53.6 percentage from three-point distance and 86.5 percent from the line. He played with Thomas at Georgia and Middle Tennessee State, too.

Coca-Cola coach Binky Favis said former imports Rashad Bell and Omar Thomas are playing for the same team in Italy and won’t be available until April or up to how far they go in the playoffs.

A candidate for the Tigers’ small import is David Jackson who played for Utah and Oregon in the NCAA. Like Dean, Jackson is listed 6-3 but Las Vegas-based recruiter Bobby Rius said the height is overstated.

Jackson, 29, has played in Italy, Spain, Korea, Turkey and Germany. He averaged 21.1 points for the Xinjiang Gyang Hui Flying Tigers in the Chinese league this season. In 2003, Jackson was named MVP in the Korean league and two years later, averaged 17 points for the CBA champion Sioux Falls Skyforce.

Favis said he wants to be sure of Jackson’s height before bringing him over.

Welcoat coach Leo Austria said he’s still studying import options like Favis.

“We’re not done yet with imports,” said Austria. “The No. 1 choice in our list won’t make it because he got injured (playing) in France. He is Terrence Dials of Ohio and our small import will depend on our big.”

A candidate for Welcoat’s small import is Lee Humphrey who played on two NCAA title squads with the University of Florida. The 6-1 sharpshooter is the all-time leading three-point shooter in NCAA Tournament history. He averaged 17 points and converted 15 triples in the final three games of the NCAA playoffs in 2006-07.

Rod Nealy's a great import for Brgy. Ginebra but he lost steam after the all-star break. That would've a great push but Ginebra just succumbed thenafter. Wish they could find a Rosell Ellis-type of import. Even if he's vertically challenged among imports, he does a lot of things for the team.

Banks is a graduate of Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, New Jersey. Banks was signed by the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets as an undrafted rookie free agent in the summer of 2005. He was assigned to the Hornets NBDL affiliate Tulsa. On Jan. 5 2006 he was waived by the Hornets and thus released by the 66ers. Banks currently plays for the Los Angeles D-Fenders, another NBDL team.

Jordan has traveled up and down the West Coast of the United States playing against the best streetball players in the world for the last 17 years.
