Its nice to look back and talk about some of the PBA's most memorable moments. i know there are too many to mention but you can at least tell us one and let us bring the good old days..

My first on the list is the controversial rumble by the Shell Rimula X and the Swift Mighty Meaty Hotdogs way back in the 90's.
it started when the controversial import of Swift, Ronnie Thompkins throws a ball straight into the face of Ricky Relosa while battling for a looseball out of bounds action. both parties were charged into Technical Fouls, but when Ronnie Thompkins is about to take the Technical Freethrows, Ricky Relosa on his blind side, " binatukan sa bumbuman " and that started the Cops and Robbers action upto the Bench of Shell.
after that " rumble " many players were suspended and fined by former commisioner Jun Bernardino.

I do remember a lot of memorable game in the PBA but the most that makes me so happy when Rudy Distrito made that jumper for Ginebra to claim the championship against Shell. That was game 7, down from being 1-3 standing. :-)

How about Johnny Abarrientos versus import Stevin Smith? Both players were shoot-out I remember Abarrientos a.k.a. the Flying A reverse layup over the Swift import. And then final seconds the regulation Stevin fade-away 3pt shot and seal to win by 1pt. Unbelievable!

it was a kneeling shot.. more of a hail mary shot.. after making that basket.. he ran straight to jawo while crying.. i remember that.. i was still in grade 1 or kinder ( dont remember ) but what i remember clearly was when the destroyer made that shot.. the whole street ( i mean lahat ng kapitbahay namin ) screamed and shouted..

yeah Mobiline with twice to beat advantage.. actually that was a set-up play for Vergel Meneses, but Bal being double teamed after the inbound and got lucky to got a little space when he pivoted.

Another, during Purefoods and San Miguel in the 80's. San Miguels Samboy Lim drove on to airing in the sky and then Purefoods Jojo Lastimosa's hit to foul him and then Samboy rolled at 180 from his head to bottom. When Samboy's landed from his head at the bottom and then very bad fall at the ground. He covered his face and blood spilled. The worst happened I had ever seen in the PBA. And then Samboy rushed to hospital.

another thing i would not forget is when allan caidic landed on his head on a rebound play and then caidic began vomitting. it was ginebra vs. san miguel 1999 (?). then jaworski had this slit throat gesture saying "patay na ba?"

it was a big issue then specially quinito henson was commentating that basketball game.

LOKO talaga si Jawo! hehe.. the explanation of jawo there was. the Ginebra was on a run when that accident happened. the SMB called during that time for a 30 second Injury timeout, so when caidic started to vomits it was more than 2 minutes after the 30 second injury timeout. jawo said to the officials, why not call a officials timeout and bring caidic to the hospital, then after few minutes, caidic was still lying on the floor then jawo said " ano ba? patay na ba? bat di nyo pa dalhin sa hospital " but unfortunately, the camera focused on jawo a liitle late, catching only the line "patay na ba?"

Yes, it was the insensitivity shown by Jawo when he also asked the dr. salud to bring caidic out of the playing court so that the game will resume without taking into consideration caidic's condition.

That incident was also the reason why Jawo resigned later as Gordon's head coach when Boss Danding later appointed Caidic as asst. to Jawo.

sonny cabatu missing two free throw shots with no time left in regulation. this was presto/great taste vs ginebra.

what is so memorable is that sonny cabatu threw two airballs. and of course ginebra won in overtime and a year later or two cabatu signed with ginebra.

Everytime Purefoods beat Ginebra in a finals match is memorable to me. One is I think, when I was in highschool. It was a close fought match when there was a shot i think by Jerry Codinera, that the Ginebra team contested should be an offensive foul, gave purefoods the lead.

Im not quite sure about what happened specifically in the end game, but the feeling of happiness is still here in me.hehehehehe.

i remember that too. after that incident, pol medina made a comic strip of that incident in inquirer. (but i lost that strip, i'm a big fan of pugad baboy)

Another the same moments was the first! Before in the PBA but in MICAA days Jaworski's landed his head thru his fastbreak and then who nudge by Jimmy Santos. And then Jaworski cannot wake in a minute and then later he said "Kapag ayaw mo masaktan, huwag ka nalang mag-basketball!"

Purefoods-SMB Game

Half-court offense with SMB's ball; Samboy Lim drives to the basket; fakes Jojo Lastimosa; flies in the air with ball in his right hand; double pumps under the outstretched arms of Nelson Asaytono and Jerry Codiñera who were trying to block his shot; Jojo Lastimosa on his descent fouls Samboy Lim hard and grabs him by the shoulders; on that instance, Samboy falls on the hard court flying sideways towards near the baseline face first; he rolls over then covers his face; blood spilled; after seeing Samboy sprawled on the floor, Jojo Lastimosa runs towards Samboy and tries to help him; technical foul on Jojo Lastimosa; Samboy Lim is taken by a stretcher and rushed straight to the hospital; the crowd boos Jojo Lastimosa everytime he touches the ball; he's pulled out of the game....the morning after, Samboy Lim has recovered after several stitches near his eyebrow; Jojo has already visited him remorseful of what he did the night before....no grudge by Samboy.... I have the moments of Anejo's Rudy Distrito's winning shot against Shell in game 7 best of 7 series his team came from 1-3 deficit and they made it. Rudy shot unbelievable drove fade away pumping in the air in 1 sec to go and then shell called a time-out. When Ronnie Magsanoc's tried to be heroes 3pt but Anejo import Jervis Cole heroed shotblocking and then Anejo won by 1pt.

http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc76/Dragonquest_2007/TonyHarris.jpg http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc76/Dragonquest_2007/TonyHarris2.jpg

The Talented Scoring Daredevil Tony Harris, nicknamed the Hurricane, then debut into the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) in 1992 as an import for the Swift franchise. Harris is widely acknowledged as one of the most dominant imports in PBA history by virtue of scoring a PBA record 105 points for Swift when they defeated Ginebra 152-147 in a game held in Iloilo City on October 10, 1992.

I just wish that the PBA will aired some of the greatest game in ABC 5 so that we can finally remember how great Harris was during his prime playing for the Swift/Pop Cola/Sunkist Franchise in the mid 1990's.

Some of the great moments that i would never forget

1. Johhny Abbarientos greatest shoot against the 6'9" Marlou Aquino almost a decade ago. It is probably one of the best shoot i have ever seen especially when a 5'7" PG just owned a defensive specialist like Marlou Aquino.

2. Danny Ildefonso's PBA Debut that began the era of raise the roof after Ildefonso made his first ever dunk in the PBA. Excellent performance from the Demolition Man as he scored 18 points and grab 10 rebounds in his debut game vs. Pop Cola Panthers.

3. Mark Caguioa's back to back to back 30 points explosion in last years PBA Philippine Cup against the San Miguel Beermen.

4. Bal David's infamous Buzzer Beater shoot against the Mobiline Phonepals as the 8th seed Brgy. Ginebra Knock Out the no.1 seed, which made Asi Taulava cried like a little baby.

5. The Allan Caidic accident after having an on air collission with his teammates Nelson Asaytono. It was also a very shocking moment after the living legend signalling to the referee if Allan Caidic is already dead or still alive.

6. Mac Cardona kicking Ronald Tubid's leg during last years Semi Finals round matchup between Ginebra and TNT.

that was one of my favorite games, having played in three consecutive finals, Sunkist and Alaska's first meeting in the '95 Governors Cup, both Flying A and Sunkist import Steven Smith were in a virtual shootout til the final seconds, I think that was Sev Sarmenta's? commentary "Johnny has it, Johnny whooow" on that reverse layup, and with 1 second, Smith's fade-away three-pointer at the buzzer, final score was 101-100, A sorry loss for Alaska.

Sunkist and Alaska were arguably the last of what you can truly call Great rivalry in the PBA.

and the refs made up for that more a decade later when they called JDV a hacking foul on Kerby Raymundo in Game 2 of the 2010 Philippine Cup Finals. lol
of course, i was only joking in that second sentence. lol

Al Solis' championship-winning 3 in Game 5 of the 1990 Reinforced Conference finals.

Toni Harris' follow up dunk on a missed fastbreak layup by Al Solis.

Benjie Paras as Crying Giant when Shell was eliminated in the 1989 Reinforced Conference.

Alvin Patrimonio's 40-pt output in the 1997 AFC Finals.

Cap Alvin's game-winning ala hoy follow up shot on a missed Mike Jones' jumper.

James Yap's offensive rebound on a Kerby missed 3, off Arwind Santos and a fade away, turn around 3 to send the game into OT.

James Yap's alley oop from a Kerby pass and a 3-pt play in the next possession last conference.

that was one of my favorite games, having played in three consecutive finals, Sunkist and Alaska's first meeting in the '95 Governors Cup, both Flying A and Sunkist import Steven Smith were in a virtual shootout til the final seconds, I think that was Sev Sarmenta's? commentary "Johnny has it, Johnny whooow" on that reverse layup, and with 1 second, Smith's fade-away three-pointer at the buzzer, final score was 101-100, A sorry loss for Alaska.

Sunkist and Alaska were arguably the last of what you can truly call Great rivalry in the PBA.

i agree with you... Victoria versus Johnny, Meneses versus Jolas, Hawkins versus Asaytono Distrito versus Cariaso.... Balingit and Realubit versus Poch and Alex Araneta and Bolado...

The most unforgetable PBA moment for me was the 1988 All Filipino KO Game between Anejo Rum and San Miguel, Mamaril's buzzer beating shot which Jaworski described as "God's play."

somewhere in the second quarter when court rivals Jaworski and Guidaben got into some exchanges once again, while taking a free throw, Guidaben mocked the Big J by holding his hair to say he's bald (Kalbo) while Big J answered back doing a hunchback (pakuba kuba) then showing his muscle as fans laughed, Guidaben couldnt contain himself from laughing too while taking a free throw, he misses to the delight of the crowd.

and during the closing minutes of the ballgame when Rudy Distrito faked an injury because he could'nt shoot free throws that night, with San Miguel up by one, the reaction of the crowd tells that Distrito did an award winning act, it almost backfired when Joey Loyzaga, his replacement could only split his free throws.

and who could forget the Living Legend's couple of three point shots in the final quarter to rally Anejo from an 11-point deficit starting the 4th period.

I was able to watch this game. I cannot recall if it was off a missed shot. But Mamaril's point blank two handed shot in front of the rim in front of Abet Guidaben was the winning shot of that game. Mamaril barely jumped and just raised his two arms for that point blank shot.

Toyota vs. South Korea, PBA Invitationals 1982.

Francis "Mr. Clutch" Arnaiz of Toyota was exchanging 3-point shots after another with the legendary S. Korean deadshot Lee Chung Hee. I thought it was already 4 or 5 consecutive 3-point exchanges between the two guards only to be interrupted when Terry Saldana let go a flying kick to a S. Korean PF after a rough rebound play between the two. Game was awarded to SK and with Terry Saldana's unsportsmanlike conduct, he was eventually disqualified in the ROY race.

1. ric-ric marata's knee/leg injury while playing for shell in 1994 (that was ugly and marata was so much in pain that i feel that scene should have an r-18 rating).

2. distrito's sahod to cariaso circa 1995 all-filipino cup between sunkist and alaska.

3. ginebra's gayoso in a coast to coast transition game-winning 3 pointer against alaska circa 1996.

4. magtulis' lucky, hail-mary, turn-around, game winner against purefoods in the second and last game of their 2001 afc quarterfinal showdown.

5. shell's pablo with a baseline, reverse slam against andy seigle circa 1997.

Nope, it was 1997, the first half of that year has been bad for the Big J, other than the Caidic incident, his sideline comments following Gordons loss to Purefoods in the All-Filipino championship, was censored by Commissioner Bernardino. the post-championship interviews were not shown on TV.

3. Bal David's running 3 pointer in their opening game of 97 season i think

4. crowd teasing Big J to play alongside with Dodot jaworski when BGK already celebrating their championship

5. Eric Menk's Block over then MBA superstar Rommel Adducul on ABC all star challenge when then commentator Noli eala said "supalpal ka and welcome to PBA" :D

6. Tanduay's offer 16 year 96 million contract to Danny Ildefonso

1.) Great Taste vs SMB, Sonny Cabatu missed 2 free throws with no time left that sent the game into OT in which GT eventually lost. As a solid GT fan back then I was so mad @ Cabatu. :D

2.) Ginebra vs Hills Bros, referee at the base line failed to call a line violation on one of the Hills Bros player with less than 2 seconds left. Coins rained in ULTRA afterwards. :p I believe it was a knockout game for the last seat in the finals.

3.) Michael Young of Manila Beer hits 4 consecutive 3 pts in OT.

4.) A game with a PBA record of 4OT, I think one of the team is Tanduay.

5.) The first game of Alvin Patrimonio in Purefoods jersey against Great Taste.
I think GT won that game.

1. that game was a delight, GT was actually up by 8 points going into the last 3 minutes, when an 8-0 run by San Miguel tied the count, Sonny Cabatu was fouled with no time left, Great Taste' bench was already rejoicing, and Black seems dejected looks headed to the dugout, a loss by the beermen would likely boot them out of a finals race, Cabatu's first free throw was way off, and he missed again in his second free throw, forcing extension, kinda funny Cabatu's reputation. SMB won by 1 point in OT.

2. what I remember in the Hills Bros-Ginebra KO game was Villamin fouling Billy Ray Bates and didn't allow him to even took off, the Coffee Kings were'nt in penalty yet, Slaughter provided the winning basket with 2 ticks to go, debris rains at the ULTRA that night, and Ginebra fans really got mad.

3. So many great performances by Michael Young, can't count how many, one of the best imports to play in the PBA, my favorite was his 3 point shot with 1 sec. left vs Tanduay.

4. There hasn't been a four overtimes that happen in PBA history.

5. I saw that game live, It was a pleasure seeing Alvin Patrimonio played his very first game in the PBA, his first basket was a one-hander and the fans at the ULTRA love it, Great taste won by two points on Pido Jarencio's buzzer-beating shot.

The thing I remember that long ago watching Jaworski & "Big Boy" Reynoso beating up referee Kahanding. Couldn't remember the teams involved. Also that led to the suspension of Jaworski for a long long time before he got reinstated.

I believe this happened in a MICAA game. Jawo and Big Boy were with MERALCO then. It wasn't referee Cahanding. It was referee OBIAS. :)

PBA's Fireworks and Magic!
From the book "PBA-20 years in pictures"

1. Only 16 seconds left in the game and they're behind by four awesome four points. Doomed for disaster like passengers of a sinking ship, they claw back and miraculously win the championship. The hard court lights up into a glorious sea of joy.

2. The game is tied, there's a human blockade. Out of nowhere, a gallant soup springs, scores on a buzzer-beating fade-away flip and gives the league's most popular club the crown in the final match of the title series. Fans refuse to go to sleep afterwards like it's Christmas eve.

3. Given up for lost after his team got badly decimated by injuries, one club owner pulls out players from their hospital beds to complete the required cast. They then turn the tide and ultimately complete the league's first Grand Slam.

These three epics line the top of a cache' of memorable events that have highlighted 32 years of the PBA

1. The best remembered title triumph in the pro league was the "longest 16 seconds," the unbelievable come-from-behind magic authored by Tommy Manotoc's U-Tex Wranglers against Toyota after they had fallen behind by four points in the final 16 seconds of a rise-or-sink championship game. It happened in the summer of 1980. It's significance: it confirmed the PBA as the greatest suspense theater in town.

2. Rudy Distrito, status uncertain, soared meteoric and became an instant superstar after he flashed through a phalanx of defenders deep in the baseline for the victory basket that won for Ginebra, which had been buried 3-1 in the series, the 1991 First Conference title. Beating arch-rival Shell, against which it had walked out during a title series a year before, Ginebra cemented its infinite romance with the masses.

3. The Crispa Redmanizers, its bench cut to half by ailments, reported with a required eight-man cast. But only after owner Danny Floro had fetched two feverish players from the hospital and made them suit up. Driven dangling close to the cliff after they had fallen behind 2-0 in their best-of-five title race against Toyota Tamaraws, The Redmanizers swang back, took game 3 and swept the remaining matches to win the 1976 All-Filipino series. They won the first League Grand Slam, thus making it as the original dynasty in the PBA.

Benjie Paras of shell blocked the layups of then mobiline players Asi Taulava and Andy Seigle.

The first blocked came when andy seigle went to the basket, and then paras block his shot. After that, the ball went to the hands of "The Rock", he drove to the basket as if he will going to dunk the ball, but Paras, with his athleticism, did another amazing job. In a span of 5 secs. benjie paras blocked the shots of two 6'9 players.

the Ginebra Walkout against Shell...

My memories of that bizzare ending Game 6.

after the commercial break, Jaworski went to the officials table, with camera man's all over, pandemonium exploded as fans from ringside and lower level seats exited and hurriedly went for cover as debris rain from the hardcourt, we see policemen arresting some fans, the sight of Anejo players going to the dugout, and commissioner Rudy Salud standing on the center of the court, that night was filled with emotions, even in our homes, me and my brothers were into it, its because Shell is a sister team of Purefoods:) on TV screen flashes repeatedly of "Anejo Walks out, Shell wins it first title."

Bobby Parks post interview quote "I hate to win a championship like this, but we deserved it." it was a night to remember. a talk of the town the next morning and even weeks after.
