FIBA, Baumann sever ties with BAP

    The Philippine Star

The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has already distanced itself from the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP).

After receiving a letter from the BAP regarding the current state of Philippine basketball, FIBA secretary-general Patrick Baumann responded by saying that the BAP “is no longer recognized by FIBA.”

The BAP letter, dated May 22, 2007 and signed by Go Teng Kok who has supposedly resigned as its president, called for a “more workable” relationship between the BAP and the Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas.

The BAP letter said the current SBP leadership under Manny V. Pangilinan is preoccupied with the formation of the RP team, and at the expense of all the other programs as previously planned.

The BAP said it is planning to convene its National Congress next month. But it could be an exercise in futility.

In his letter dated June 1, 2007, Baumann stressed that, “the Basketball Association of the Philippines is no longer recognized by FIBA.”

He added that the “use of the FIBA logo on the BAP letterhead is not allowed “ and the activities of the BAP can only be of domestic nature and only if approved by the new federation (SBP).”

its great that FIBA finally stamp its authority regarding the new governing body..
fucking idiot want to destabilize the organization and in the process might include OUR NT!!!!!!!!!!! PHAK U GO TENG KOK!!!

Graham Lim makes the Chinoys look bad.

Lakas naman ng kapit nya, di na sya nawala sa sirkulasyon.

BAP is the breeding ground of bad sports officials. (Lito Puyat, Lim etc)

It's about time Baumann set the BAP in its right place -- which is outside FIBA.
                      Keep running, big boy.

                              By WAYLON GALVEZ

The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) handed the Basketball Association of the Philippines a stinging rebuff, reminding the association that it has ceased to be a member of the federation and therefore it will only deal with the newly-recognized Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas.

FIBA Secretary-General Patrick Baumann was reacting to a letter sent by BAP president Go Teng Kok criticizing the SBP for its lack of a grassroots program, the very same issues that led to the expulsion of the BAP from FIBA membership.

The BAP was apparently trying to get the attention of the FIBA using a tactic that has been the hallmark of Go’s demolition job in his earlier squabbles with Philippine sports officials.

Having been marginalized, the BAP is trying to keep alive its hopes of getting back in the good graces of FIBA by painting a picture of the SBP as having failed in its mandate although the association is barely six months old.

Baumann, however, quickly put Go and the BAP in their place, saying he is only responding to the letter as a "matter of courtesy."

"Following the decisions taken earlier this year, the BAP is no longer recognized by FIBA," Baumann said in a letter dated June 1, 2007.

"As such if I reply to you it is due only to a matter of courtesy," Baumann said, adding that the comments made by Go will be forwarded to SBP President Manny V. Pangilinan.

Baumann also informed Go that the use of the FIBA logo on the letterhead of the BAP "is not allowed."

In his letter to Baumann dated May 22, 2007, Go claimed that the SBP has been preoccupied with the formation of the men’s National Team at the expense of other programs, "none of which has taken off."

Without identifying anyone, Go said that many quarters have been disappointed, particularly the local players with the formation of the Chot Reyes-mentored SMC-Team Pilipinas composed of Fil-foreigners.

The controversial official, who is also president of the track and field association, also criticized the appointment of Patrick Gregorio as Executive Director of the SBP. He argued that Gregorio was appointed because of his close ties with PBA Commissioner Noli Eala.

Baumann was also informed by Go of the appointment of Graham Lim as Secretary-General of the Asian University Basketball Federation (AUBF), an appointment which Baumann said is not recognized by the FIBA.

This is because, Baumann said, Lim’s organization is not recognized by the International University Sports Federation (FISU) or by the Asian University Sports Federation (AUSF) "which unfortunately may create some more problems with FIBA."

Baumann also asked Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Jose "Peping" Cojuangco Jr. to help the SBP "administratively so that we could have more constant and regular communication."

TARANTADO TALAGA TONG GO TENG KOK!!! WHAT A FUCKING BACKSTABBER!!!
