  • "Bodyguards & Assassins": Best HK Film of 2009

Mengke Bateer didn't play a huge part in the movie but his presence was definitely felt, and he was pretty good. (Only light-hearted moments in the film were about him.) It was reported that the entire cast (tons of stars, no less) waited for him for some scenes since he took Xinjiang to the CBA Finals last year. He can definitely act.

      Entire film with English subtitles

      * Best Actor & Supporting Actor, 4th Asian Film Awards
      * 18 nominations at 29th HK Film Awards (new record)

Shit, I cried like a fucking baby! Haven't cried for a stupid movie like this forever. I know this is only an action film with a pretty ridiculous plot, but 2 minutes into the film I already had tears in my eyes! This film is definitely more than martial arts (although it had US MMA champion Cung Le in it).

Dang... Youtube removed the vids. Well you all know how to get hold of movies. (Technically it's still up there on Youtube, just without English subtitles.)

BTW, variety.com's Richard Kuipers also liked Bateer's performance

Last but not least, there's tofu-vending giant Wang Fuming, played by basketball star Mengke Bateer, who debuts impressively and shows promise of becoming China's equivalent of late French wrestler-thesp Andre the Giant.
