  • What kills the young prospects in Lebanon?

During a chat with a young player,we were talking about the young prospects in Lebanon,he said that there's a lot of good players that have been wasted and one of them is Vincent Khoury, the one who shined the most on Lebanese squad during the Asian Championship for U18,he told me that the guy was a great prospect but the fear abt the future didn't allow him to work hard and improve.
Solutions? what would you propose to solve this phenomenon?
How to push the young genetration to play basketball and to keep it as their first priority ?
what steps would the federation and sports ministry use to encourage the youngsters?

    Waiting your answers!

first i believe that there's a problem in the chances of having prospects for the future.
in the last years after the rise of lebanese bball (sagesse winning in 99-00.. etc and the NT qualifying for world champs...) everyone i rlly mean it everyone started playing basketball. Children from all ages started playing bball .
but since 2 years this number is decreasing we are seeing youth going for football more. Enthusiasm for basketball has decreased in a very very big percentage compared to maybe 2002 or 2003 . I'm saying that acording to what i see from local students in schools or unis and from the local courts found in cities and cillages everyone is using them for mini-football.
    anyone agrees??

What killed the basketball in Lebanon is when young players just play for money and don't make basketball their only profession. They don't care if they played many minutes or not as long as they get a good salary.
Decreasing the number of teams in the 1st division was a mistake.

the main reason is that we don't have age championships, it was one of the main rules that was going to be voted on 7th of this month, there was 3 sessions in a row with no quorum. when this is applied, especially that the flb wanted the games to be played on weekends when there's no schools,it will solve alot of problems.

this is the main problem we face, just apply it and see the talents will grow, one other thing is the bad coaches we have, they need to go on courses abroad or get them some clinic to lebanon to teach them.

last thing i don't agree with sniper about decreasing the teams, that will make competition better because we don't have enough talent for 10 teams, 8 teams was better and when they increased the teams to 10 again i saw this is bad, instead these young players should play in age championships.

          its not the reason.
Basketball in schools and universties have to be the 1st priority of the federation, college championship must be followed and very well organized.
Schools competition are almost absent, bad organization and cheating with ages have been taking place.
The best thing to do is using the American system like offering schorlaships for the basketball players and building strong and competitive teams.
Young players need help to keep their confidence in the game, otherwise they will loose their faith.

          Just take a look:
-Ahmad Ibrahim (raised in Lebanon till 16 and then to US)
-Bassel Bawji (raised in Lebanon till 16 and then to US)
-Hayk Gyokchyan (in Lebanon till 16 and then to US)
-Tarek Ammoury (in Lebanon till 16 and then to US)
-Mustapha El Akkari (in Lebanon till 16 and then to US)
and now Tarek Dagher (16 years is leaving to US)

its not wrong to send our players to US but it somehow means that our systems need some major improvements!!!!

What I meant is that the Lebanese young stars during the late 90s have worked very much on themselves, they loved to give their best. The league at that time was more competitive at the first 6 places. 10-12 Teams were in the 1st division;thus more young players had the opportunity to enter the court.

The level of imports was higher.

It is true that universities and schools must better develop and organize their championships.

I guess that Tadamon, kahraba, Central, Ehia, and Ghazir, Feitroun should be merged in two teams. Thus, Jounieh and Kesrwan fans will be able to see one or two good teams in the league able to compete on the title. The merging leads to a better team financing and talent search....

                  Ghazir produced Jean Abdelnour
                  Kahraba Rony Fahed
Riyadi (Fadi El khatib,Omar Turk,Mazen Mneimneh...)

Where is Sagesse? where is Mouttahed? Where is Blue Stars?
those teams were supposed to be the richest and eventhough their schools couldnt produce any good players.

Lately only Riyadi,Harlem,Hoops,Champville and Anibal are producing players for the youth NTs and barely to hear abt a player from Mouttahed and Sagesse.
The federation has to urge each div 1 and div 2 teams to create U18,U16,U14and U12 categories.

                          Its not abt that.
I will give you an exemple,Bashir Saad was supposed to be the big star, everyone was talking abt him few years ago but he didnt improve a bit.

Mazen Mneimneh,he was way way better than Elie Estephan 4 years ago with the youth NT,now they r equal cz Mazen did not improve while Elie did !

Bassel Bawji was very normal player few years ago but now he's different, strong body with high skills and if he keeps working he definitely has a good future ahead of him.

When its situation was good and stable before 2005, Sagesse produced Roy Samaha and Elie Stephan and developped the skills of Khatib, Balaa etc. Sagesse at that time had a complete organisation from the men's team to the age categories and they were all closely supervised by Ghassan Sarkis.

Since the financial problems occured, al this organisation was lost!

maybe but schools must not be related to the first team,a lot of clubs are not part of the Division 1 league and still they have youth teams working normally like Central,Ghazir,Hoops,Harlem .....
