i have a few questions. Ok it's not few, it's many but i'd love to learn a lot from Mid East Basketball pro or even amateur leagues. i know there are different nations involve hopefully each is represented for those who will reply...

+ How many teams do you have per league? For pro and amateur...
+ What's the format like? Do you run a single season? Or do you have multiple conferences in one season? How many games on the average over the course of a season?
+ Do you have salary cap rules a la NBA? What its like?
+ Do you allow imports/reinforcements to play in your league?
+ Do you strictly use FIBA Rules? Or do you have some variations, maybe minor/major changes from what the FIBA uses?
+ How's the crowd during the games? Average attendance per game? Or at least during championship? Is it that popular?

Pardon the ignorance, i really want to know how our Asian neighbors do it at home and compare it to ours. Any direct answer or maybe a link will be greatly appreciated!

One way or another we are connected with our hoop-addiction so please understand :D

Good day.

Thanks for the thread.
Unfortunately our league is more like semi pro but not professional.
Imports/reiforcements are allowed in the league,2 imports for each team.
The attendance is good,usually it will be great and loud when Sagesse is playing all the season and when Riyadi is playing in the playoffs :D the other teams have good/average attendance.
There's no salary cap but the current federation is trying to cut the budget but theres some objections from the top teams whom are paying big numbers!
We follow the Fiba instructions but still our rules cannot match the development in the world !!!!

Best Regards.

Thanks daniab. How many teams do you have in your league? i've been to the Chinese forum and they said they had 20 pro teams :O, for one country that is real big. :D Of course, we are talking about China. :)

Also, does your national team players come from your league/s? They do play as professionals when not in the tour of duty? IF there's an international competition do they get pulled out of their mother team?

Thanks again.

there's 10 teams in the Lebanese league,it was 12 few years ago!
Yes most of the NT players come from the local league except for those playing in the NCAA and lately Matt who is playing as a foreign in Puerto Rico.

Usually,the participations of the NT are very few,only the Asian Championship and Waba,thas why there was no conflict btw the clubs duty and the NT.

+ How many teams do you have per league? For pro and amateur...

everything is semi professonal in Iran !! we haven't any amateur league and our league are professonal on paper but it is in fact semi professonal.

the number of teams changes every year !
for the next year we will have :
* Super League : 12 teams
* Div 1 : 21 teams
* Div 2 : 15 teams

also we have many provincial leagues , which is more amateur.

+ What's the format like? Do you run a single season? Or do you have multiple conferences in one season? How many games on the average over the course of a season?
home and away regular season + playoffs
each team plays around 30~40 matches in the superleague. if they compete in provincial leagues , they must play another 20 matches.

+ Do you have salary cap rules a la NBA? What its like?
no

+ Do you allow imports/reinforcements to play in your league?
2 imports for each team
but last year federation allowed the top 4 teams to have the third import ! but only two of them could play at the same time.

+ Do you strictly use FIBA Rules? Or do you have some variations, maybe minor/major changes from what the FIBA uses?
100% FIBA Rules

+ How's the crowd during the games? Average attendance per game? Or at least during championship? Is it that popular?

in Tehran :
* international matches and very important league matches : 3000~5000
* the rest matches : 100 ~ 200 :eek: (Tehrani fans are very lazy)
in Esfahan : 500 !
in north cities : 2000~4000 (stadiums are often full)

Basketball is not a very popular sport in Iran but also it isn't unpopular ! Football is the most popular sport in Iran and Wrestling is the second but Basketball is getting popular day by day !
