Since 2006, the PBA Philippine National Team leads Lebanon 4 Games to 1 in friendly competitions. The blast from the past (Philippines) and the self-proclaimed heir to the throne of China (Lebanon) will square off again in Jones Cup and Manila Camp this July and August before finally embarking on their respective missions in Tianjin. Of course, the result of these games will not matter, except for national pride and bragging rights. 4- 1. Will the Philippines extend its winning streak or will the tigers of Lebanon claw their way back to redemption? Aside from the FIba tournament, i think these friendly matches are also noteworthy to watch.

I like this rivalry... its good for both countries to have a traditional rivalry... it helps both countries' basketball... Just like the rivalry between Australia and New Zealand, both maintain a healthy traditional rivalry in different sports codes for about 50-60 years... too bad fans rivalry between Filipino and Lebanese forumers are more important here..
I hope this thread will not spark heated debates... please no childish comments or remarks...
Philippine-Lebanon rivalry (2005-present):
National Team level:
- 2006 Lebanon Tour of Manila (2-game series)
- 2007 Manila 4-Nations Invitational Tournament (2 games)
- 2007 William Jones Cup
- 2008 FIBA Asia U18 Championship (2 games)
Club level:
- 2005 FIBA Asia Champions Cup
- 2007 FIBA Asia Champions Cup
- 2009 FIBA Asia Champions Cup
Coming up:
- 2009 William Jones Cup
- 2009 Lebanon Camp in Manila (there is a possibitiy that both NTs will not play each other because the dumbness of the Philippine NT head coach)
- 2009 FIBA Asia Championship
I'm sure there are other tournaments both countries meet up that are not mention yet..

i will be honest with you guys. I don't think there is such thing as rivalry between these 2 teams. At least in lebanon no one talk about it or even mention it. I only see it on this specific forum not more not less.
I'm sorry but we cant talk about 4-1 pino lead since they r all friendly games.. if we wanna talk about Lebanon's official history in Fiba Asia (i.e. last 4 asian champs.) we never had a problem or an important game with philipines.
I just think that in this forum. lebanese, chinese, and philipinos are the most active between the asian countries so some kind of inter-forum rivalry is appearing. NO comparison between the 2 teams until they have played like 6 or 7 official games and not friendly ones.
and btw i just checked Fiba ranking :
24- Lebanon
63- Phillipines
if you guys want to use friendly games to give edge for philippines basketball, we can use fiba's official ranking to give a big edge for lebanese basketball.
Cheers mates!!

I agree. There might be a certain rivalry between Lebanon and Iran, Lebanon and Syria, Lebanon and Jordan in a certain extent and even Lebanon and China. As for the Lebanon-Phillipines rivalry, I think it only exists in this forum, as we never met in official tournaments (or very few times).

There's a slight difference btw the two teams honestly, maybe Rp team is a good team but yet they are not showing a good competition against Iran,Jordan,Lebanon and others.
Fiba Asia is the only fair tournament to compare!Proud to be Lebanese

Jordan - 2 losses
Lebanon - only lebanon win was a buzzer beater compared to 4-5 wins by rp?
that's 5 or 6 wins and 4 losses against teams ranked way way way way way higher than the philippines and we're still not a good competition.sigpic

they were friendly games,in the official games you lost !!!!!
We beat Iran twice before 2007 Asian Championship during Jones cup and the 2nd round of Asia when the win wasn't to affect, while in the finals they beat us what does that mean ?
maybe your good in winning friendly games but you need to concentrate on winning official gamesProud to be Lebanese

It's funny that both fans feel the same way. In the Philippines, nobody is scared of lebanon because it's a tradition that even college boys beat lebanon. but that is not to offend you, guys. it's just a fact that even our college boys beat a mahmoud-led team. so the boys here are not scared of lebanon. this is not to offend anyone, of course. it's just so funny that we both feel this way toward our teams. i think only lebanese fans dont consider the philippines as a formidable adversary. but i think the lebanese players do. even khatib. that's why they will be back. they want to learn a thing or two about real basketball. so my verdict is yes, there is some sort of rivalry but the lebanese fans will never admit it.

who cares if you won more than 7,000 times over iran when what we're talking about here is what you said in your previous post. you said we cant even be a good competition to iran, jordan and lebanon. i just stated the obvious. i just showed our win and lost records when we played those countries you just mentioned.
want me to add the win of our college players against your 8 nt players + 2 imports powered riyadi? was that a friendly?
dude admit it. your team with a naturalized player was winning during the time RP was suspended and not too keen in playing in fiba tournaments. again, this is the 2nd time our country will seriously play in fiba asia since 1985. and they're not even practicing.sigpic
